Fresh Prawn Noodles

December 10th, 2007, Jason

Just one of those random days where you grab some of your friends, which, in this case, May Gin, my sister Jamie (Yes, me being awfully nice and kind, again.) and my brother Ah Yong for some good food. This time, we picked SS2’s Green View Restaurant for its signature dish, fresh prawn noodles.

Well, we were early and we had to wait for Ah Yong to arrive from his office at Section 14. It was 6pm then and the restaurant was quite empty.

6.15pm.

6.30pm.

6.45pm.

7pm.

Screw Ah Yong, 1 hour and he has yet to show up. We called for our dishes to be served immediately.

Deep fried marmite squid. The taste is a combination of sweet, salty and a little bit of spiciness. The squids weren’t crunchy as it supposed to be, but it was chewy and nice to munch on. However, the size of the squids were really small. Are they serving under aged baby squids to us?

Their tofu tasted very ordinary, not worth mentioning. May Gin said they have another signature tofu dish, but I guessed we ordered the wrong one.

Of course, their fresh prawn noodles, which we came for.

The prawns were simply huge and fresh. They took the liberty to slice the prawns into half so that you could eat the prawn without much effort. However, there’s a reason behind it.

The roes that were stored in the prawns’ heads. These smelly (to some people) yet sinfully delicious roes were used to cook the gravy of the noodles. Yee Mee were used and the noodles went well with the gravy, not too soggy yet not too hard.

Absolutely delicious and unique on its own. Some people might not like it, but I truly adored the gravy. However, it would be even better if the gravy was thicker. It’s a dish not meant for those with high blood pressure or cholesterol level.

The bill came close to RM100, with the fresh prawn noodles taking up RM66. I have to admit that the noodles are quite expensive, but for the taste, I think its worth it.

Hopefully, the next time I visit this restaurant, I will have all the usual members, then we can have the noodles with more prawns in it. The more prawns you have, the more roes you have and the tastier the gravy is. Of course, the deadlier it is.
