Error 01 : Communication Error
This is my standard kit lens, EF-S 17-85mm F4-5.6 IS USM. A pretty versatile lens, I would say, albeit a little slow but with my Canon Speedlite 580 EXII, it’s not much of a problem.
However, just when I needed it the most for my up-coming “project”, it has to fail on me by giving me this error message. No matter how I clean the contacts, the same error message popped up.
I defintiely have to send it back to Canon Service Center and get it fixed as soon as possible. Still, I doubt they are able to fix it for me before my “project” on October 18 and the Hari Raya public holidays aren’t helping either.
Sighs.
All these crucial “events” have to happen now. F**ked.
Note : The lens fixed in less than five working days! Ha! All is good now.

Well, the 17-85 is pretty well known for this issue. Believe that the problem lies in the aperture blades.

Try sending it to the CSC in Subang Jaya directly. Tell them you need it urgently as you are using your camera for work purpose (which you are).
I did try it once with this way, and I got it back less than a week.

Yee Hou : It was working fine for the past 10 months and all of a sudden, this problem came up. I suppose its the aperture blade because I have tested my body with other lenses, and they worked like a charm, but not my kit lens.
Chong : No time to study already and you want me to go KL some more. Anyway, will give Canon Melaka a call.
