Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant, 1 Utama

We had our first gathering at Shogun Japanese buffet restaurant. Honestly, it wasn’t my suggestion. In fact, I strongly disagreed after reading the many reviews and feedback from various blogs which wrote how they sucked.

I suggested Lemon Grass cafe at Shangri La, KL initially but Raymond said everyone was having a tight budget and said Shogun Japanese buffet restaurant was the best choice as it was cheap.

J : “Why would I want to pay for the food that I already know it is going to suck?”
Raymond : “You should find out yourself rather than reading what other people has to say.”
J : “No. It is against my will to go Shogun.”

However, with many of us budgeting (Not me, them!), we had no choice but went ahead.

It sure looks like a nice place to dine in, with all the warm lighting and atmosphere. Tables are placed with enough space between each other and to bump into the guest’s chair of the opposite table is not quite likely to happen. The food tables / sections are conveniently placed right in the middle / center of the L-shaped restaurant and everyone has similar distance to the tables.

Plain old tasteless green tea was served upon seated.

Not long after you sit down, they will serve you a plate of cheese baked giant (maybe not so fresh) oyster. Each patron is entitled to one only. To me, it didn’t taste that nice as the cheese and mayonnaise totally overpowered the taste of fresh oysters.

As for the rest of the food, they tasted just average and nothing to shout about. Even the unagis didn’t look that tempting to an unagi lover like me. Their sushi was worse than Sushi King’s, totally not fresh and cold. There were only a handful of dishes that I managed to identify that tasted good.

Overall, it was a disappointing one and I don’t think I will visit them again.

Raymond : “Man… The food really sucks.”
Jason : “Didn’t I tell you so?”

Totally agree……..Shogun has really crappy food …. so commercialised …. no quality control …so what if its cheap …. i’ll rather spend the same amount of $$ in a japanese restaurant to get really authentic shit rather than some bullshit buffet.

Set aside the fact that I spent the whole night visiting toilet after dining there… the food was actually ok for me.

I thought it’s a norm that when the food is no longer fresh, they’ll start to add more seasoning and a little bit of this and that, no? :p

Serious? I thought Shogun is one of the best dining place? Maybe I was cheated by it’s renovation which makes me feel that the place has nice food. My sister last time went Shogun but she didn’t complain about the food so I still assume it’s good. But after reading the bad impression by u all, I think I better stop my friends and people around me ask me to dine over there.

SJDude : Exactly, but they didn’t want to listen to me.

YeinJee : Dude, after squatting in the toilet for the whole night, you still think the food is okay?

Bryan : Haha. You are so right.

Kamkuey : The chap fan of Japanese buffet. LOL. Good one!

WQ : Try the hotels’ one. They might be better than Jogoya.

Chong : I mean, their unagis.

Xin : Having a big ass camera helps in intimidating them. Heh! I am not visiting them anymore, if possible. So, whether I can order more of those oysters or not doesn’t matter anymore.

Calvin : Haha! Have you tried Jogoya? Not too bad actually. Of course, there are still the hotels’ buffet, especially Shangri-La’s Lemon Grass cafe, which has pretty high standard. Its Zipangu Japanese restaurant also quite popular among bloggers. How about Equatorial’s Kampachi?

    Yung . : They suck. :D

Jijitankyy : They are both under the same management.

Iris : i’ve been there, you can read here.

HyperX : Seriously, just google Shogun and you have enough blogs to convince you it sucks.

Lily : Jogoya’s quality has dropped tremendously within two years of its operation. Hence, you can’t compare back then with current. Also, Shogun still sucks, its just another way of saying its not nice.
