It’s Just My Blogging Style
“Doesn’t your blog have rooms for self expressions, personal thoughts or intellectual stuffs other than food and blogging?”
Actually, I used to blog about my emotions and personal thoughts every once in a blue moon. However, I, sort of, completely stopped expressing myself and be more cautious about what I write in my blog due to a number of reasons.
My sisters, cousins, aunties, uncles and most importantly, my parents are reading my blog. Yes, my parents are reading my blog. No, it is not as cool as you thought, probably only half as cool. While I am partially cool with them reading my blog, it is not cool when my parents used the stuffs that I blogged about against me. They don’t do that anymore though, probably they have accepted what blogging is all about. Still, my relatives are reading my blog and up till certain extend, it’s not that comfortable.
Secondly, I don’t really like the idea of exposing my inner self too much, in public. While I do tell my stuffs to my good old buddies or certain specific people on my MSN, I feel insecure exposing my emotions to every Tom, Dick, Harry or any other random readers I have. I do appreciate all the readers I have (Yes, you!), but I can only expose myself that much and anything more than that, it requires more than just reading my blog. The fact that I always like to keep things to myself first doesn’t help too.
Relationships between my parents and I lean more towards the bad side. I barely tell them my stuffs unless the need arises or my parents ask about it. This “unhealthy” relationship started and remained as long as I can remember and even until today, it’s still going on. Although at one point, it looked and felt better. Referring to the above two points, I try not to blog about my private stuffs or even if I do, I will password protect it. Whenever I password protect a post, there are a lot of “work” needed to be done and to make my life easier, I choose not to blog about it. Hence, no personal thoughts or private matters in my blog.
Being a pretty long winded person, blogging about intellectual stuffs that requires elaborations is probably not a very good idea too. Already people are skipping the text part and glancing at the pictures, I doubt people would be reading my 1000 words and text-only post. I am not the kind of bloggers who can express very well with words on specific issues like a few notable bloggers out there. We have such bloggers who are doing way better than me, an average Joe.
As for general or current issues, not that I do not care, I just don’t like to blog what 239487512 bloggers out there are blogging about, be it to express their views, gain traffic and / or attract search engines’ spider bots. I do know what’s going on with the country, be it from the mainstream medias or alternative medias. It’s just not my kind of blogging material and also, refer to the previous point.
So, that’s why you hardly see me writing text-only, emotions, personal thoughts or intellectual stuffs on my blog.
If you read until here, give yourself a pat on the back. And thank you, for reading all.

life is short, keeping too many things inside just makes life harder to live. Just my 2 cents.
July 2nd, 2008 00:10
coincidentally, i’ve just written an entry abt my own blog as well, n have ping-ed it to Ping.sg. saw your entry, n was really interested in what u have to say abt this - about having a public blog, and expressing ur true feelings n thoughts online.
i’m going back to blogging abt my feelings n my thoughts. my blog is me. or at least, that’s what it used to be, and i want it to be like that again.
cheers to different styles of blogging. don’t stop blogging, but blog what u have to say, and password-protect the rest. haha!

Hey jason,
I get what you mean about the privacy part, when everyone reads your blog, you tend not to share everything, and keep some stuff to yourself, that is normal. But I just want to tell you this, you are the owner of your own blog, you have the authority to choose what to say, and what not to say. Of course, we do not reveal every single thing about ourselves, but a little review and peek into what our lives look like to the audience, is dramatically interesting enough, and you are doing a darn god job at it.
About you and your parents, come on dude, some people may seem like they are damned close and happy with their parents, but you never know what happens behind the closed doors. People just tell the happy stories, but the ugly sides, we all hide at best. I can assure u, bad relationships with parents is nothing unusual, and u should not be feeling bad about it, but just try and see what you can do about it in the future.
As for your writing style, you do not have to use bombastic words, or superbly elaborative sentences. I always prefer more toned down, straight to the point, humble and simple expressions, but still sincere, yet very attention grabbing kind of way. You are doing just fine, your language in fact, is much better than many bloggers out there, so need to think much about it. Of course, we all have to try to improve, in any way that we can.
There are tonnes of blogs out there blogging about mainstream stuff, you see politics on TV and newspaper, screw those headlines and the hot talks. We blog about things people do not see much elsewhere, and we tell the stories from our side of view, may it be small, but its unique.
But hey, do not mark yourself so lowly ok? You are one of the very few awesome and cool bloggers many of us readers have come across. Just keep up the good work, you have your style, stick to it, and u may change it as you see fit. Who is to say what to do with your own blog? No one but yourself.

July 2nd, 2008 10:07
hey, i finished reading the whole lot!!! ^.^
July 2nd, 2008 10:39
hey, i have same thought with you and that’s the reason why i locked my blog to few invited friends only. I use to the blog as my diary…tell every single thing, happy or not happy. All the unsatisfaction of work in my blog too until most of my colleagues know my blog existence, i decided to lock it. At least i feel safer and live in my own world in this way.
July 2nd, 2008 11:14
I understand lo because I don’t blog about my personal emotions or ups and downs in my blog. There is NO privacy in blogging.
July 2nd, 2008 11:34
Just be as u used to be…
July 2nd, 2008 12:15
If you don’t feel comfortable telling all your private stuffs on your blog, then don’t. We need some amount of privacy, don’t we? But actually nobody cares except your parents and probably relatives! Since blogging helps you to relief pent up frustrations, it’s actually good to blog about your private stuffs just to let out your pent up feelings. One way you can do that is to write all your personal stuffs in a separate blog - a blog that your parents have no access to, or a blog that does not reveal your true name and picture.
July 2nd, 2008 12:26
i totally feel you…
when i post private stuffs on my blog, people who reads it tend to be extremely judgemental on the issue/situation/opinions and all.
*hugs*

Why not starting up a new blog without letting ur family and relatives know? That way you can express what you wanted too. Or you scared of losing other visitors? There’s always a trade-off, just do whatever you wanted to or you can ask your family and relative not to read your blog anymore.

Hurley : But I am comfortable with it, at least, most of the time.
Daphne Maia : I am okay with writing personal stuffs on my blog every now and then, but definitely not too personal or intimate. I shall leave it for those people on my MSN and friends that I know well enough to trust them. Thanks and you too, keep on blogging!
Robin : That’s one freaking long comment, my friend. Thanks for the encouragement and respect you always given me. Haha! I know my comment is short and doesn’t justify your long comment, but it will do. Thanks again, dude!
Sean : Haha. Thanks for supporting my blog. I am cool with sharing my stuffs publicly, but there’s a limit to it. I didn’t have the limit during those days when I didn’t have these much of readers, but its different now.
Sandg : You don’t be so sure, I might just stumbled upon it one random day. Hmph! Yeah, that’s why I am going to stick to my current style, which is what people and readers are coming back for, not lengthy or personal or emo stuffs. :D Thanks!
Emily : Haha, yalah yalah. You very clever.
Msaufong : With children, you should be even more careful these days. A lot of bin tai lou out there.
Autumnmusic : Thank you and give yourself a pat on the back. :D
Yan Er : Yes, its very dangerous to blog about work when you don’t have the option to password protect / lock it. So, I can’t read your blog now also loh, right? :P
Che-Cheh : Agree. Although I do write once in a blue moon, just that its not very deep. Just a brief one.
湘绣蜻蜓 : I will.
Foongpc : Yeah. :) The thought of writing on another separate blog did pop up, but I figured that if possible, I want it to be all in this blog. To share as much as possible, only until a certain limit. If any of my readers asks me on MSN or in real life, who knows, I might just pour it out. I just didn’t like the idea of my emo / personal / intimate stuffs to linger on the Internet for the rest of my lifes. Talk about it? Anytime.
Erizabesu : Haha. Another reason why I didn’t write those stuffs.
Hyperx : If I really have to write it out, I would blog about it and then lock it. :D Hehe. As for asking them not to read my blog, I don’t think its very fair to do so.

Neo : *pats pats*
July 6th, 2008 00:27
I’m going to quote Lorelle and say, blog whatever you are passionate about. Don’t keep in your heart what other people say. Blogging, I believe, is not about what others want you to write. It’s about what you want to write :D
July 6th, 2008 16:41
Pelf : Haha. Yes, and blogging about personal stuffs, at the moment, is something I am not really passionate about.
July 28th, 2008 13:16
You don’t have to explain in the first place, Jason. First of all, what you have on your blog are interesting and definitely will attract people to return. Secondly, writing a blog is like writing whatever you wanna write. Who cares what people think, in the first place, as long as it is proper.
Anyway, I finished reading this post and I did give myself a pat.. haha.
Keep up with your good work!
July 28th, 2008 13:23
Ruehyinn : Hehe. Well, when I have that much of readers reading my blog, I certainly don’t want to disappoint or bore them. And that’s when restrictions come in or I am not blogging for myself entirely anymore. Its a little complicated but I think I am managing it pretty well. Hehe. Thanks for reading the whole post ya!
