I Got Robbed! - The Process

January 31st, 2008, Jason

It was around 5PM when I heard someone was knocking on the gate. I walked out of the room to attend a very fair and mid 20’s Malay / Indian adult about 180cm, clad in white T-shirt (with yellow sleeves), light blue cap and a pair of working jeans.

“The landlord has sent me to repair the blockage at the toilet upstairs.”
“Oh okay.”

Without feeling any suspicious, I opened the door and led the guy to the upstairs’ toilet. He inspected it for a while and went downstairs. I followed him and he went outside to turn off the main pipe and in-house pipe. We went back upstairs again while he proceed to further inspec it. He then came back downstairs and proceeded to the back of the house, where all the pipes are visible and connected.

He then asked me to go back upstairs while he would be at downstairs to fix the thing from the bottom by opening the pipe to drain away the stuffs that blocked the pipe. He then asked me to stand by to flush more water into the pipe once the signal was given.

I went upstairs and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Thinking that it would still take some time, I wanted to go back to my room (which is at ground floor) to attend an on-going conversation with Tiuniasing and also to check out the guy, wondering what took him so long.

Just when I was about to enter my room, I noticed that my desk was unusually empty / something was missing from the same spot. I walked to the back of the house (where all the pipes are) and saw nobody there. I hurriedly rushed to the porch where he parked his metallic blue Proton Satria, the car wasn’t there.

And that was how I got robbed at my own house.

Odd enough, he didn’t take my wallet (with RM100 inside) and my dSLR, which I both conviniently left it on top and under of the table. For that, I am slightly grateful.

I don’t think it was fully my fault or due to my carelessness as

1) He knew which toilet was spoilt and the blockage.

2) The guy acted like a real plumber, inspecting the blocked drainage and switched off the main pipe.

3) The landlord does send people to repair stuffs whenever / after we tell him about it but not this time.

4) Usually, there will be people at both upstairs and downstairs (me) to monitor the guy / stranger but I was home alone yesterday.

However, that being said, precautions will be taken from now on after discussing with the housemates by locking the outside gate, getting confirmation with the landlord or other safety precautions.

P/S : Apparently, it wasn’t the first case according to the police who came to my house. For such, our neighbours (student house) had the same thing just not too long ago.

Help Nian Ning’s Family, Fight With Them

January 29th, 2008, Jason

While I do not know Chung Lern or Nian Ning personally, but being in the blogsphere long enough, I have heard the name Chung Lern a number of times, from friends like Yee Hou, Jolene and even saw the name on The R.age pullout.

Bus related accidents that have taken lives are not new anymore. We have read it on the newspaper a couple of times and nothing has been done by the authorities so far. However, this is the first (and hopefully, the last) accident that involved a friend (albeit indirectly) and a life has been taken away. Sad.

Reports by The Star.

Two killed, 24 hurt in bus crash.
Bus crash: Driver had 13 outstanding summonses.
Family mourns loss of beautiful, intelligent go-getter.

Hence, I am posting this up in spreading the news and requests by Chung Lern and Nian Ning’s families. Do pass the message around and all forms of help would be generally appreciated.

Chung Lern and Nian Ning’s families would like all families and friends of the victims, dead or alive, in the Slim River Bus Crash to come forward and join them in taking action against the bus company. Stand up to seek justice for these three innocent individuals, who were all so young and full of life.

If you have a blog, please call out to anyone who knows someone who survived or did not survive the crash to come forward to join the Lee family.

Make a huge difference, make a huge fuss.

For now, you may contact Lee Chung Lern at chunglern@gmail.com or preferably on his mobile phone at 012-6670368.

Do your part by doing the right thing and forwarding / posting the message around.

A number of bloggers (particularly the heavy weights) are in talks of starting a petition to do what we can do. However, as everything is still under planning stage, more information will be revealed as time goes by and any suggestions are more than welcomed to be posted at Jolene’s blog.

Blog Bus Crash No More has been setup to coordinate all relevant activities and news regarding about Nian Ning’s case and bus crash incidents.

Comments are closed in respect of the deceased.

Do I Look Like A Malay?

January 28th, 2008, Jason

While walking towards the concourse area at Mahkota Parade, a credit card salesman approached me. (Not again. -roll eyes-)

“Encik, kredit kad apa yang kamu guna?”
“Sir, what credit card do you use?”

I stopped and looked at him.

“……”
“……”

“我很像马来人么?”
“Do I look like a Malay?”

And I walked away.

There was a LG KU990 Viewty roadshow going on at the main entrance of Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall and I was walking towards the mall.

The LG hot chick promoter approached me.

“Ini handphone model terbaru dari LG. Nak tengok?”
“This is the latest mobile phone from LG. Do you want to have a look?”

I stared at her for a second or two.

“我很像马来人么?”
“Do I look like a Malay?”

“哈哈!不好意思。有一点咯,你晒到很黑嘛!”
“Haha! I’m sorry. Actually, you do look like one as you are very dark.”

“……”
“……”

And these weren’t the first time. I have many people / newly-met-work-related people asking me, “So, are you a Chinese or mixed?”.

Do I really look like a Malay?

P/S : By the way, the LG KU990 Viewty touch screen phone is really cool and I am seriously considering about it. My birthday is around the corner, anyone willing to spare some money?
