6 Hours At Ipoh - Part I

It was October 28, 4.30am when all three of us (Ah Yong, Ah Kit and me) dragged ourselves to get ready and start our half day trip to Ipoh. Initially, May Gin was supposed to join us but bailed out on the night before. Oh well, not that we were going to cancel our trip just because someone bailed out, right?

As I was the most wide awake among the three of us, I drove to Ipoh while Ah Yong would drive back to KL. It was proven a wise decision that I drove up to Ipoh because Ah Yong fell into a drain while walking to a toilet at a petrol station. LOL. It must be the karma for not bringing his girl friend along.

It has been quite a while since we sunbathed ourselves in the early morning sunlight.

Our first stop was none other than the Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant. I haven’t been here for more than two years, since our last trip to Cameron Highlands. Foh San Dim Sum Restaurant is well known throughout the country and was featured on many magazines, newspapers and shows before. It is safe to say that they are the pioneers of dim sum restaurant in Ipoh.

You have to queue and fight for your own seat / table and high chances you will be sharing the table with other strangers as well. Upon seated, you will be given a piece of paper and all your orders will be jotted down by the waitress on that paper. Present the paper to the counter and they will calculate the total of the bill.

Two years back, we were still student and we had limited money to spend. On top of that, we had a rather heavy breakfast at Bidor before we had dim sum. This time, being the first station and arrived empty stomach, we didn’t show any mercy and no remorse for all the tiny dumplings. With an almost unlimited budget, we whacked as many dim sums as we could. No captions, no comments, just pictures. Use your imagination to imagine and fantasize how wonderful and delicious these little dumplings are. Juicy and natural sweetness from the freshest medium sized prawns you can bite on.

The bill? RM93! That’s RM31 per person. It was insane. The pictures may show only one of each type, but some of them we ordered twice, thrice and even quadruplet. We spent 90 minutes eating our breakfast, whereas the strangers that sat with us has changed twice and we were yet to leave our table. For once, eating dim sum for breakfast became a little suffering the moment we stepped out of the restaurant, with a bloated stomach, of course.

I needed something chilled to cool myself down. The hot Chinese tea that I had during our breakfast was literally killing me. We then drove to the old town for some authentic white coffee at Nam Heong Coffee Shop. I think they are also one of the pioneers in Ipoh, hence, the coffee shop is always full house.

Actually, I am not a coffee lover. Not even those franchised Starbucks, Coffee Bean or San Fransisco. Coffee makes me feel bloated and lose my appetite for the whole day. I am more of a tea guy. However, I do love drinking white coffee though and it doesn’t really give me the feeling of bloated like other coffee should. I had two glasses of iced white coffee. Even the foam tasted better.

We were too full to go for another round of food tasting. Hence, we decided to give our stomach and our body a good rest. We didn’t sleep at all last night, especially me, and I was sleep deprived. I needed to sleep, desperately.

Guess what we did?

Cutie : Hehe. Next time, perhaps. Too bad you couldn’t join us.

Anthraxxxx : LOL. I have edited the typo. Thanks.

Melysa : We are not locals so we definitely won’t know the cheaper dim sums in Ipoh. Of course, we would then go for the famous one. Feel sorry? Haha! It’s okay, we are willing to spend for good food and RM31 for such good and amount of dim sums is totally worth it. Haha! Thanks for dropping by. Will definitely email you if I ever come to Ipoh again.

Yung. : Haha! Fixed the typo already. Yes, a lot of people did that thinking that we have eaten really a lot and were about to leave. Mana tau we kept on ordering and they left our table. Haha! We ate for 1.5 hours.

Superhero W : It’s a typo and I ran with it. Does that sentence sounds familiar to you?

Mama Bok : Yes yes, I would pay for good and delicious food too.

Mikel : Ok what! Look at the prawns!

Che-Cheh : Yes yes, damn nice! RM100 worth of dim sums! Hehe! No. They left me in the car alone, sleeping, in a car park! Haha!

Xin : Worth it. Almost every dim sum had prawns in it!

Hung Wei : Haha! That’s why we are so fat. :P

Claudine : I hope the pictures helped you in one way or another. You don’t get to eat ‘em at least you get to see ‘em. Heh!

Vhanded : Haha! Cyberjaya got nothing to eat. Head over to Serdang instead.

KLJS : Oh, you got your own domain already. Haha! Been ages since I visited your blog. Well, if you are allergic to prawns, I guess you can’t take most of the dim sums in Foh San. You can try others though.
