Sakae Sushi

I was never a Japanese food fanatic as there are few reasons that made me dislike them. However, it all changed when I met up wit Ah Kit, Ah Yong and Li Sui for dinner at Sushi King. It was exactly a month ago (July 18) when I had that sushi dinner with them. It must be the atmosphere, the people and the mood that changed everything and since then, I started to crave for sushis.

Hence, when I was in KL for Emil’s concert, I decided to satisfy my cravings once and for all. Together with JiNz and Sook Ying, my buddies and I went to Sakae Sushi at The Curve for lunch. Before that, I was thinking of Shogun or Sushi Groove at 1U or Sakae Sushi at The Curve but considering that buffet won’t be that money worth as we had 3 girls with us and Sushi Groove is a little on the expensive side. Hence, Sakae Sushi it was.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were led to another section of the restaurant where the lowered “floor” and tables are able to accommodate up to 8 people. Green tea for all of us, but I would prefer my green tea to be chilled before instead of pouring the hot water into the cup and adding the ice cubes after that.

If the items and sushis that you want to eat are not on the conveyor belt, you use the terminal / computer to order them. First, select the category that the item is categorized in. Then, select the item and its quantity. Proceed to confirm your orders and wait for the food to be served. That’s the screen saver actually, not the menu / interface. There’s a menu for you to refer to on every table, so, no worries.

Since I was seated the furthest from the terminal / computer, I couldn’t order what I want to order. My orders had to get approval from the floor before the orders were placed. What type of friends are these? Clockwise from top left, Li Sui, Ah Yong, Ah Kit, myself, Sook Ying and JiNz and sis was holding the key (mouse) to order the food.

I don’t know what they ordered so I will just let the photos do the job. The food tasted really good, far better than Sushi King actually.

However, there was a bowl of chicken curry with rice tasted very Maggi-curry-powder-ish, the good thing about it that it has a lot of cubed potatoes. There was another bowl of unagi that came in soup form, which I wasn’t very fond of. The soup’s strong taste has overpowered the taste of unagi itself. The oyakodon (chicken meat and egg with white rice) tasted as good as Nadeje’s too. On the other hand, I heard Sook Ying was complaining that the chawanmushi (steamed egg) tasted very plain, as in, nothing but eggs. Most importantly, my our unagis! We ordered a total of 4 plates of unagis and it was snapped up in no time, by me, of course.

Since there were 6 of us, we ordered a jumbo sushi combo plate, which consists of 38 sushis in one big plate. We never know it was going to give us one helluva of a time to finish all 38 sushis.

The girls weren’t much of a help also, leaving 3 guys behind to finish the remaining 18 sushis. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 8 more. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 5 more.

It came to a point where we had to order a plate of unagi and put a piece of unagi on top of the sushi to make us eat more.

We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 2 more. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 1 more. Finally, we gave up and we left 1 pitiful sushi behind.

The bill came up to RM287 and for the amount we paid for the lunch, it was a really satisfying meal. We should have ordered a smaller sushi combo plate or opted to pay more but get those small plates of sushis, then, we won’t have to suffer and stuff ourselves with sushis towards the end of the meal.

Most importantly, I got my cravings for unagi quenched.

No more sushis for… Hmm… 2 weeks. - JiNz

Sook Ying : The tempura tasted so-so only, the batter wasn’t good enough. Eat so much sushi, later die of sushi only you know. Ha!

Hao : Haha! Secret secret. LOL. Don’t ask so much, not good for you.

Cely : Singapore also got Sakae Sushi what! Maybe got even better Japanese restaurant.

Wow, sushi! I know that shop, that’s the first Sushi shop I ever enter in my life (first sushi at age of 19! Yes indeed, because parents don’t like it) , and was also the first time I ate raw fish.

(look nice, but need patient and some courage to taste it, I feel a little bit guilty to eat raw meat…)

So how much was one plate from the conveyor belt? The cheapest?
Need to put aside how much to spend.

I’ve been wanting to go there for a while now… starting to forget that I’ve been wanting to go there. Heh.

The Angel : Me too! Heh!

Bryan : Haha! Hell yeah, but Malacca only got Sushi King, I mean, franchised Japanese restaurant.

Sook Ying : It will come haunt you too.

VHanded : Eat raw fish also feel guilty? You damn weird lah!

Sean : Haha! Kinda, but not very.

Simmy : Hehe. I am going to try Sushi Groove at 1U during my next trip. You want to join me? Haha! As for Genki Sushi, no idea as I hardly hear about them.

Kai Hong : I thought you say lobster? 骗我感情!

Hwey : You asked the wrong person. I ordered whatever I wanted to eat, without looking at the price. LOL. But if not mistaken, the cheapest is RM1.90, followed by RM3.90 and RM5.90. The rest are from the menu already. The price is roughly about the same as Sushi King, just add in another 20% of the budget will do.

    Allison : Can consider. Haha!
