I was never a Japanese food fanatic as there are few reasons that made me dislike them. However, it all changed when I met up wit Ah Kit, Ah Yong and Li Sui for dinner at Sushi King. It was exactly a month ago (July 18) when I had that sushi dinner with them. It must be the atmosphere, the people and the mood that changed everything and since then, I started to crave for sushis.
Hence, when I was in KL for Emil’s concert, I decided to satisfy my cravings once and for all. Together with JiNz and Sook Ying, my buddies and I went to Sakae Sushi at The Curve for lunch. Before that, I was thinking of Shogun or Sushi Groove at 1U or Sakae Sushi at The Curve but considering that buffet won’t be that money worth as we had 3 girls with us and Sushi Groove is a little on the expensive side. Hence, Sakae Sushi it was.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were led to another section of the restaurant where the lowered “floor” and tables are able to accommodate up to 8 people. Green tea for all of us, but I would prefer my green tea to be chilled before instead of pouring the hot water into the cup and adding the ice cubes after that.

If the items and sushis that you want to eat are not on the conveyor belt, you use the terminal / computer to order them. First, select the category that the item is categorized in. Then, select the item and its quantity. Proceed to confirm your orders and wait for the food to be served. That’s the screen saver actually, not the menu / interface. There’s a menu for you to refer to on every table, so, no worries.

Since I was seated the furthest from the terminal / computer, I couldn’t order what I want to order. My orders had to get approval from the floor before the orders were placed. What type of friends are these? Clockwise from top left, Li Sui, Ah Yong, Ah Kit, myself, Sook Ying and JiNz and sis was holding the key (mouse) to order the food.

I don’t know what they ordered so I will just let the photos do the job. The food tasted really good, far better than Sushi King actually.
However, there was a bowl of chicken curry with rice tasted very Maggi-curry-powder-ish, the good thing about it that it has a lot of cubed potatoes. There was another bowl of unagi that came in soup form, which I wasn’t very fond of. The soup’s strong taste has overpowered the taste of unagi itself. The oyakodon (chicken meat and egg with white rice) tasted as good as Nadeje’s too. On the other hand, I heard Sook Ying was complaining that the chawanmushi (steamed egg) tasted very plain, as in, nothing but eggs. Most importantly, my our unagis! We ordered a total of 4 plates of unagis and it was snapped up in no time, by me, of course.

Since there were 6 of us, we ordered a jumbo sushi combo plate, which consists of 38 sushis in one big plate. We never know it was going to give us one helluva of a time to finish all 38 sushis.

The girls weren’t much of a help also, leaving 3 guys behind to finish the remaining 18 sushis. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 8 more. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 5 more.

It came to a point where we had to order a plate of unagi and put a piece of unagi on top of the sushi to make us eat more.

We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 2 more. We stuffed and stuffed and stuffed, there were 1 more. Finally, we gave up and we left 1 pitiful sushi behind.

The bill came up to RM287 and for the amount we paid for the lunch, it was a really satisfying meal. We should have ordered a smaller sushi combo plate or opted to pay more but get those small plates of sushis, then, we won’t have to suffer and stuff ourselves with sushis towards the end of the meal.
Most importantly, I got my cravings for unagi quenched.
No more sushis for… Hmm… 2 weeks. - JiNz
