I had a few more hours to spare before I was required to pick up my house mate at Bangsar. Hence, called up May Gin of http://foodylicious.blogspot.com to meet up for a late lunch since she was staying nearby. As both of us didn’t know where to dine at, I just picked Wong Kok Char Chan Teng.

Honestly, I am never fond of these fake Hong Kong franchised restaurants. The first time I had my meal at one of these restaurants was with Nee and I remembered clearly that I didn’t even finish 1/2 of my rice. Way way overcooked beef steak and rice that turned out to be cheese cooked porridge. I hate eating rice but over soaked with gravy.
Anyway, since I was early, I ordered a French toast and cold yuen yong (coffee and tea). Only to realize that I ticked the wrong cold yuen yong, ended up my glass of yuen yong was served like the picture below. -sweat-

French toast wasn’t as sweet and oily as I first tasted, just the right amount. Something very normal but at least, it was edible. I recalled I didn’t finish it when I ordered the same thing during my previous visit. The bread was literally soaked in a pot of melted butter, soggy and disgusting. The French toast was supposed to be square but I ate one corner away already. Ha!

Then, May Gin came and this time, I got our yuen yong order correctly. Mine has more coffee than tea though.

We ordered XO sauce fried rice which certainly didn’t have any taste of XO sauce. In fact, I doubt they put any in it. It didn’t have the spiciness and fragrance that XO sauce should have and emit. In fact, they put in cili padi to give the spiciness instead. However, at least, the rice didn’t stick together and form one lump (粒粒皆分开) but still tasted below average. Certainly, I didn’t see much meat inside the rice too, except the one or two pitiful prawns.

We also ordered XO sauce omelet roll (or something like that) and dumplings with soup. The omelet roll tasted quite nice actually, with meat, chicken floss and also small rolls of chee cheong fun in it. However, after a few more rounds, I got jelak. The dumplings were nice too, not too salty like what I had in other franchised restaurants. As for the soup? Very ajinamoto-ish or other flavouring. Ha! I think there were quite a lot of dumplings in it too, at least 6 or more.

This is the second time I meet up with May Gin and she’s only 23. Best of all, she loves to hang out in the kitchen and cooks / bakes a lot. I mean, really a lot. While most food blogs are about restaurants, nice places to eat and delicious food, her food blog is all about her adventure in the kitchen. From western dishes to cookies to pastries to muffins to pizzas to puddings to lasagna to desserts to…… You named it, she might be able to dish it out.

Seriously, I would be damn lucky and grateful if I have her as my girl friend. Imagine all the food that I can eat and the amount of money I can save. That is also why I hate to read / visit her blog. Each time I visit her blog, I will be damn hungry and yet not able to eat it.
Best of all, she doesn’t have a boy friend but she has a husband. Yes, husband. She just said “Yes” to her boy friend’s proposal recently and has officially been “upgraded” to Mrs. Chang. Ha! Lucky bastardo guy!
So, while she was still contemplating whether to blog about it or not, let me do the job of spreading the joy and happiness. Congratulate her, ok?

Congratulations!
P/S : These Hong Kong franchised restaurant still suck.
