RM480 Spectacles

Looking at the picture I took with JiNz during late January, I couldn’t help it but laughed at myself.

My specs was crooked, just in case you didn’t notice or know what was I talking about. Hence, enough is enough. I decided to change my specs before my next trip to KL. Then, my cheque, a rather fat one, came in just at the right time.I then headed down to my town’s optical shop and did the necessary eye tests and frame selecting process.

Fast forward, I got my specs 2 days before I went to KL. Not sure how many people noticed but am very sure that nobody mentioned it. Damn sad! Ha! It doesn’t matter since I am blogging about it anyway. It’s a red Levi’s frame and there’s not much design on it. In fact, it looks like just any other ordinary specs frame.

The specs sure looks normal, isn’t it? Yet, it cost me a whopping RM480! It is expensive because of the glasses that I opted for. This time, I opted for Essilor’s transition lens. Transition lens is the not so latest technology and is starting to get more affordable recently. When UV light is “shined” through the lens, the lens will change to a darker shade, making it into a sun glasses. When there’s no UV light detected, it will change back to clear lens. To make it even simpler for you, its a 2-in-1 lens, sun glasses and clear glasses in 1 lens.

Under normal lighting…

When UV light is detected…

Now, that’s wicked isn’t it? I got to know about this transition lens from Tien Soon and he recommended Essilor, which is quite affordable and has good quality. The transition is fast, barely noticeable and smooth. At times, I was wondering whether the lens has change its darkness or not.

Shameless cam-whore.

Fine. That shoudl be the last cam-whore picture of myself taken with my own camera.

i broke my glasses some 2 years ago cos I was too ’smart’. I checked in the glasses case and put on my glasses on the 13 hour flight to KL. In KLIA, I changed to contact lenses and put the glasses in the bag. I was too excited when I was in the car. I just left my bag on the seat and put my laptop bag ON TOP of the bag. :P

Luckily I didn’t have to change the frame. I spent 200++ on the lenses though. It’s scratch resistant and light weight and UV bla bla bla.

    Anyway, nice glasses!

I’m using Essilor Transition Lens too. Loved it! Even at normal light, the lens looks a little bit darker compared to normal lenses. Mine is a little pricer….twice your price coz my power is very high.

In actual fact, transitions lenses has been in the market for quite some time, I got mine around 2-3 years back. If not mistaken, It works by detecting the presence of both heat as well as UV, in order for the lenses to transit to a darkened state. I find it great for outdoors, but when driving, most of the time, it doesn’t go dark enough until a comfortable, shielding level. :). Great pair of glasses btw.

hehe glad that you’re happy with it :D

5 years ago, the quality of transition lenses in the market wasn’t good enough; they turned yellowish just within 2 years. But nowadays, very much better. Convenient for shortsighted people like us lo, no need to carry 2 different specs

Some more very yeng also ahhahaa.. go outdoor it turns dark, enter indoor it turns to normal.. now you see now you don’t haha

    Emily : You… You… You…!

Blueapple : Haha! Yes, I got my facts wrong and I have done the necessary editing. I think it was only recently that it got affordable.

    Jamie : Pay yourself.

MengZ : Only when UV light is detected, then only it will change to darker shade.

Moopig : Haha! You really damn careless. What about now? Switch to contact lens already, right? Is the lens really scratch resistant? :P

Fire Horse : I have seen even more expensive’s, like my dad’s, nearly RM900.

Milly : What specs you chose until RM450? -sweat-

Yung : Never mind, we got PayPerPost. LOL.

Che-Cheh : Wah! That bad your eye sight har?

湘绣蜻蜓 : If that’s the case, wear contact lens loh! Way cheaper actually.

Jed : Yes, I got my facts wrongly. Thanks for pointing it out. Yes, the shade isn’t dark enough when driving. I always manually make it darker by putting it under the sun for a while. LOL. Thanks!

Gallivanter : Hehe! Thanks for pointing out.

Fattien : Tai kor your head! :P

Tien Soon : If it wasn’t you, I would have save RM480. So, you have to belanja me makan. LOL.

Din : Clip-on sunglasses is so outdated. I mean, really out dated. That was like 5-6 or maybe longer years ago. -sweat- Its red, not pink. :P

Now I’m too lazy to wear contacts everyday lah. My eyes get tired easily =_=

I think the lenses are really scratch resistant. I remember my old lenses had lots of scratches cos I was too lazy to use the right cloth to clean it. Just use t-shirt or something. But this one, it’s been 2 years plus I reckon and it’s still scratch free. And I use my t-shirt to clean it most of the time :P

Moopig : Ha! I think I should get that lens too. How much was it again, you say? LOL. I always use my t-shirt / towel to wipe them too! :P

I don’t quite remember to be honest but I’m very sure it was 200++, below 250 I guess. I think I had some discount because they are my dad’s client. (I was told that they hardly gave discounts) :P

Manson : I call him Chris. Ha! Yeah, heard that it will turn yellowish after some time, however, the technology is now better and can last longer now. Hence, I decided to make the switch. On top of that, it does save me some hastle nowadays. You are in this line? You mean you are doing opticals?
