New Boss… Soon

On Monday, my editor and I were casually talking about her transfer back to HQ at Petaling Jaya. After all, she has been the Malacca’s bureau chief for quite some time. In fact, she’s one of the longest serving bureau chief in Malacca’s office’s history.

“Eventually, they will transfer me back to HQ, but then, I don’t think it will be so soon. Maybe another few more years.”

“Good good. I will still be in Malacca for the next 3 years. Haha!”

Two days later (today)…

“Jason, HQ has faxed down the memo and I am transferred back to HQ, with effective from February 15. A lady in her mid / late 20’s from Johor will be the new bureau chief.”

“……”

“I will miss you.” (That’s what I heard lah!)

Barely working under her for 9 months, and she got transferred back to PJ. Looks like I be having a new boss / editor very soon. I hope she will let my stories go through and get them back if those guys at HQ kills it. After all, not everyone is willing to go that extra mile to make sure your stories get published all the time.

Can’t help feeling sad and disappointed over it. After all, she was the one who opened a whole new door and path for me to venture into, and also guided me with my writings all these while. Without her guidance, I won’t be at the place where I am standing now or one step nearer to something that I think I can excel in my profession that I want to excel in.

Thanks, Miss Lee!

If there is chance, perhaps you can propose to have your own column about the subject you love the most - food and eating; but remember to personalise it like Katz Tales and not just about reviewing eateries. Sometimes you don’t need to start writing after being given an assignment; you can start on several articles (the history of certain famous food, state specialties, worst food you’ve ever tasted, etc) and just submit it in for consideration.

If it doesn’t work out, then publish it in your blog and wow your readers. Be proactive in your job as I have a feeling something new is coming your way. Change maybe good, change maybe bad but as always change is always difficult in the beginning. Trust your journalistic instincts and everything will turn out fine.

ps Be careful of spending more money or being cheated this coming February month…

Yes, it’s hard to meet a 贵人 in the beginning path of our career. I understand how you feel now. Cos all we need are opportunities, and of course we hope the opportunities will persist.

Hope you get another good new boss :)

Giovoni : My own column? *gasp* It took Xandria Ooi don’t-know-how-many-years plus after being a VJ / celebrity, only she had a column of her own. I should be glad enough that The Star revamped Saturday’s metro to be a lifestyle / food / entertainment concept metro, hence, the more chances for my food stories to be published. If not, its gonna take ages for my food stories to be published. If you are from central (KL), you should have read a number of my news recently. :P

Yes, am currently finding suitable topics, because I can’t comment like a columnist as I am writing news, factual news. But rest assured, most of them will be published in my own blog. Hopefully, with the new boss coming in, everything will be for better.

Hmm, what’s with the warning at the last paragraph? Haha, I am just curious that why you suddenly said so? Something bad is going to happen on me? Maybe, February is CNY and CNY means gambling. LOL.

Hwey : Yeah, hopefully she will be a good supervisor / editor. After all, she will be the one guiding me once my current editor leaves me.

Che-Cheh : Haha, you noticed! Thank you thank you! Haha, you made my day! Hopefully she’s a good boss too!

    Bryan : That I don’t mind. LOL.

Gallivanter : Yeap, its getting rare.

Mama Bok : You are kidding, right? *cross fingers*

Tien Soon : The new boss better be good, if not, her name will appear somewhere else. :P LOL.

    Shinky : Belum graduate lah!

Allison : See how it goes lah.
