Wantan Mee, Malacca Style
If you are in Malacca and craving for “Wantan Mee” during nighttime, there’s only 1 place which I think is quite good. If not mistaken, this stall has been operating for 1 or 2 generations and it’s quite popular among the locals. Another reason could be that they are one of the few good stalls that sells wantan mee during nighttime.

Do take note that the wantan mee you have in Malacca is slightly different from the wantan mee you have outside Malacca. Instead of the usual black soy sauce, you will get a bowl of red and oily wantan mee. Chili sauce, not those western’s chili sauce, but those watery Chinese chili sauce, (I should taken a picture of the chili sauce.) is the main sauce for the noodles. It looks very spicy but in fact, it’s not.

I guess Malaccans love their noodles soft and soggy, just like when you overcook the instant noodles, you get the soggy and not bouncy noodle. It looks like a lump of noodles instead of strands of noodles. Topped with barbequed pork (”Char Siw 叉烧” and “Siew Yuk 烧肉”), a few strands of vegetables and the best part of the noodles, half a spoonful of crunchy pork lards.

I would say the size of the wantan (meat dumpling) is very pathetic. I believe, if I cut the wantan into half, I might be able to force it up into my nostrils. However, each wantan is roughly around RM0.20. I could still remember the stall near my grandmother’s place sold it for RM0.10 each. I ordered an extra bowl of wantan. The lady grabbed a handful of wantan, which was roughly around 13 pieces.

However, not everyone, especially the non-locals, like Malacca style’s wantan mee. I remembered one of my housemates dislikes it because he is not used to the taste. But then, you should give it a try if you are in Malacca. It’s something different, just like the “Longkang Mee” from Tampin. It might not tastes good for you, but it’s something different.
Oh, and that meal cost Carol RM11.50. Cheap?

Cely : Then you better don’t eat. :D
Michelleg : You know Capitol Satay Celup?
If you do know, there’s a T-junction there, right? Turn left to go Jalan Bunga Raya and turn right to go Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho / Ujong Pasir / Highway.
Turn right and drive further up until you see a 7-11 on your left. The shop is opposite only.
I don’t include the address of the shop because I don’t have the address and also, I don’t want to do do “advertising” but mere recommendation. :)
I would be glad to tell you where is it though. ;)

oo ok so its near capitol huh. anyways the duck mee, yeah thats the one. the tong shui is not bad also. one thing though, try not to eat the chilli sauze. all my friends got stomachache after taking it. happened twice d, and to the ones who took the chilli ONLY. hahas, if ure tough then nvm lo. LOL.
September 18th, 2006 22:33
Yen : Yeap, roughly another 50m away only. Yup, I like the tong shui there too, especially their sweet potatoes. :D
They never bother to cap the chili sauce bottle even after their business. They left it open throughout the whole day, eventually become sour / spoilt. I would advise not to talk any of those chilies at any stalls. But I had that before and I didn’t get stomachache or anything. My stomach is made of steel. :pbpbpb
