Not Your Usual Ramly Burger, It’s Grilled Ramly Burger!
“Ramly Burger” (A wiki page of “Ramly Burger” at Wikipedia? WTF!), does the name sound familiar to you? If it doesn’t, it’s sad.
As far as I know or I have seen, there’s only 1 way to cook the patty which is to fry them on a hot plate. Then it all comes down to the stuffs such as ingredients (cabbages, tomatoes, onions, eggs and etc.), seasoning / condiments (soy sauce, mayonnaise, oyster sauce, pepper, black pepper and etc.) and gravy (black pepper sauce, mushroom sauce, thousand island dressing and etc.). There are just that much of combinations / flavours you can come up with.
I was driving around my housing area, thinking what to eat after my group discussion when I spotted this burger stall near 7-11. I got down from the car and walked towards the stall. Something caught my surprise, there was no hot plate but a BBQ / grill pit.

“Craps. This burger is going to suck like hell,” I said to myself as I stood in front of the stall. Thinking that it was not a good idea / bad manners to walk away when I was already standing at the stall, I ordered two beef patties with cheese. The burger didn’t even have eggs because there was no hot plate to fry / cook the eggs.

Since its grilled and low fire, it took longer time for the patty to be fully cooked. Every now and then, he would spread butter, nothing but butter on the patty.

While one of the Malay guy BBQ-ed the patties, the other Malay guy toasted the bread. The bread has the usual stuffs like mayonnaise, cabbage, tomato, onion, chili sauce and a slice of cheese.
He later spread some black pepper sauce and their own made paste (It is made from mint, curry powder, herbs, spices, onions, gingers, chilies and etc.). They came up with the paste themselves, which was the best thing they have ever put on their burgers.

The burger was so thick till the box couldn’t be closed and I nearly cramped my mouth when I tried to have my first bite. It’s just simply big large.

My first bite on the beef patty had already sent me a signal to my brain that this burger was not the usual beef patty. The texture was totally different from the fried patty. It tasted quite similar to McDonalds’ beef patty / quater pounder or Burger King’s beef patty, where you have this juicy and mushy mushy patty. This one was firmer, juicier, more fragrant, more filling and more chewy. The paste that they spread onto, gave the patty a different taste other than the usual soy sauce, pepper and don’t-know-what sauce. It was a little spicy, a little minty, a little… One word to describe the patty, superb!

After I finished the burger, the black pepper taste and mild spiciness were still lingering in my mouth. 1 wasn’t enough, I was craving for more. I drove to the stall and ordered another one more. That’s was like 10 minutes back-to-back, the boss even thought something went wrong with the burger and I came back to make a complaint. Hence, the pictures and today’s post.
2 “Double Daging Cheese” for RM6.40, satisfying!
P/S : I am more of a beef burger fan. I don’t know whether it will still tastes the same or not if it’s chicken patty.

Yen Shiong : Dude, RM6.40 for 2 burgers leh. That’s RM3.20 each. :D Hehe. Go check it out, so far my friends gave me good feedbacks.
BBU Ramly Burgers? I know. ;) I even know the boss. They used to sell their burgers at Jiki’s food court, which later they only moved to BBU. The tall guy is Melaka’s national basket ball player, he once told me.
I tried most of his burgers, and my personal favourite is his black pepper hotdog. However, the burgers’ quality are dropping, compared to those days when he was at Jiki’s. And the hotdog he uses is not those super big hotdog anymore, but the normal hotdog which I dislike. When he was operating at Jiki’s, the hotdog is super big and was much more delicious.
Now? *shrugs*
