Conspiracy Behind Jason’s Food Reviews?

September 30th, 2006, Jason

I met Miche a few days back, when she was buying the Ramly Burger I featured on my blog.

Since I will be doing my rounds at my hubby’s shop, I went there to get a taste of it. I ordered Black Pepper Beef burger.

Then sms Jason that I was there.

Received his reply, “C U there.”

Oh No! I’m not ready to meet him.

As I was typing “no”, “Hi Michelle”, someone called.

That gave me a fright!

It was Jason. He looks so cute with his rounded baby face. If he were much much younger, I think, I’ll pinch both his cheek. Had small talk then we left.

So cute with his rounded baby face… So cute with his rounded baby face… So cute with his rounded baby face… So cute with his rounded baby face… So cute with his rounded baby face…

Wah Lau Eh! -faints- There must have been one or two wires inside her brain that got twisted. -blek-

Miche then blogged about the aftermath of eating the burger. To cut it short, something went wrong and Miche had a painful and suffering gastic on that night itself. Therefore, I take this opportunity to apologize to Miche. I am sorry, Auntie Miche.

Taste and flavour is something very subjective and it is up to the person to judge whether is it bad, so so, good or best food they have eaten. I have no intention to fool my readers by blogging and putting up photos about food that tasted so so but got exaggerated by me. Neither I would say I am totally not responsible for it. It’s just that, I have no control over the quality and taste of the food I ate; and I am just writing about what my tongue felt at that particular moment. Not to mention, my stomach is literally made from steel and nicknamed “black hole”. -lol-

Unlike KL, Malacca is a very old town and usually, the more popular stalls are usually managed by families who have been running the stall for years, maybe 1 or 2 generations. Hence, you can bid farewell to many “qualities” that you might want to watch out when you dine at any place.

Road side - Checked!
Dirty - Checked!
Old - Checked!
Dimly lit - Checked!
Bigger-than-cats Rats - Checked!
Oily - Checked!
Pork Lard - Checked!

High class - Nope!
Healthy - Nope!
Hygiene - Nope!
Comfortable - Nope!
Air conditioned - Nope!

Well, you get the idea. However, that what makes Malacca a truly unique place to visit. The name of historical city is no bluff after all. Whatever food that I featured is based solely on my own taste buds and opinions. Please don’t put too high expectations when you savour them; the bigger your expectation is, the bigger your disappointment is.

Complaints that I knew so far :

1) Jesslyn - Beef Bah Kut Teh being too salty and spicy.

2) Miche - Ramly Burger caused serious gastric.

3) King’s Cafe’s Nyonya Restaurant is off the list. Too many to write down, after we had our company dinner there.

As for the good ones? Why not you find out by yourself? -wink-

However, if you have tasted it yourself, do let me know the outcome and your own opinions. It would definitely help me in improving my tastes and also my food category.

I Was Charged At Session Court! Almost.

September 26th, 2006, Jason

Kidding. I wasn’t charged, but I was at the Session Court for work. Heh!

1. No slippers, shorts, skirts, T-shirts or any attire that is too casual.
2. Switch off handphones before you enter any court room.
3. Bow to the judge when you enter / leave the court room.
4. No leg crossing when you are sitting in the room.
5. Avoid talking, giggling, joking, SMS-ing, reading newspaper or anything in the court room.

You can be fined by the police if you break the rules. There will be at least 2 polices throughout the listening session.

Seatings in the court is as below :

Yellow - Judge
Orange - Translator / Secretary (I think there’s a proper name for this.)
Red - Defendants’ lawyers (The one being charged.)
Green - Plaintiffs’ lawyers (The one charging.)
Blue - Medias / Reporters / Police
Purple - Only civils / crimes cases would require the defendant to sit inside the enclosed box.
Brown - Defendants will stand here throughout the listening.
Grey - Audience.

The process.

1. A buzz sound can be heard moments before the judge comes into the room. “Bzzzttt…”

2. A police will say “Bangunnnnnn……” until the judge sits down, while everyone stands up and bows.

3. Hearing starts.

4. The secretary will read out the charges filed by the plaintiff.

5. Both defendant’s and plaintiff’s lawyers will present whatever notes / slides / arguments / pictures they have to the judge.

6. The judge will then take a 30 to 40 minutes break.

7. Repeat steps 1 to 4.

8. Both parties’ lawyers will present their final arguments.

9. Judge will decide the fine or jail term. (No hammering in Session Court. Only in High Court.)

Note :

Usually, there will be at least 5 cases to be heard at one session.

Thanks to Jase Lee’s question, I realized, the lawyers and judges don’t wear wigs. Not sure about High Court though.

In Chinese dramas, the “polices” will say “威武”. In Malaysia, it’s “Bangunnn……”. -lol-

Basically, that’s about it.

Little incidents that happened when I was at the court / lockup. There’s a lockup behind the building, where they will lock the criminals before they are lead to the court / when they are brought into the court.

Supervisor : “Tuan, tadi aku tak sempat tangkap gambar orang tu lah!”

Police : “Yakah? Tunggu sekejap. Aku pergi ambil dia, dan aku bawa dia masuk sekali lagi dan kamu tangkaplah!”

Supervisor : “Ok.”

Jason : “What the…”

Supervisor : “It happens, sometimes when you missed the chance, you can ask them to take the person out again and react the scene (When the criminal just arrived and is about to be taken into lockup.).”

Jason : “A bit cheating leh!”

After the listening, my colleague was trying to take pictures of 2 defendants, coming out from the court.

1 went hiding when he saw the camera pointing at him while 1 questioned my colleague.

Defendant : “Why you take my picture?” -loud voice-
Colleague : “……” -big grins, while eyes looking at some other place.-

Defendant : “Why you take my picture?” -pissed off tone-
Colleague : “……” -big grins, while eyes looking at some other place.-

Supervisor : “We are from the press.”
Defendant : “……: -walks away-

Jason : “Why colleague slumber only, somemore with that cheeky grin and that I-took-your-picture-already-and-you-cannot-do-anything face?”

Supervisor : “Haha… This one nothing lah. My female photographer got chased and bashed up when I was working in KL. The guy even showed us the middle finger.”

Jason : “……”

No wonder they say court is a dramatic and full of stories place.

P/S : Please correct me if there’s any mistakes.

Crossroad And Decision - Part I

September 24th, 2006, Jason

My finals are approaching soon, about roughly 3 weeks from now. This trimester will be different from other trimesters, because the subjects I am taking this trimester are very difficult. I have attended most of the lectures, tutorials and extra classes (except for 1 subject), yet the situation / condition doesn’t differ much from what I am now. Hence, my worst case scenario for this trimester will be 3 Fs, as in all 3 subjects. -touchwood-

If it really happens, there will be a whole new level of thunderstorm between my parents and I. -touchwood- After all, the sea has been too calm for the past 12 months. My mum will be asking requesting me to stop studying and choose to work. My dad, by putting guilt and pressure, will let me make my own decision. I still love them though. -shrugs-

Perhaps, it is time for me to make a decision. A decision that will change my life after that. A decision that will show me the path that I will walk in the future. A decision between to quit my engineering degree in MMU and focus on my current part time job, turning it into a full time job or to continue my engineering degree and work part time.

I did briefly mention to my dad that I was considering of working my way up in the field of journalism while studying few months ago. The feedback I got was, well, my dad was disappointed and reminded me the usual stuffs. I put down the thoughts for a while, and made an agreement with my editor that I will not work before the exam period, during the exam period and days I have classes.

Click here for the flashback on why and how I ended up in engineering, when I should have taken other courses like journalism or mass communication.

What if I continue my engineering degree… (I assume I manage to graduate.)

1. I have a degree.

2. I have more options in my job choices.

3. A degree, regardless of what course it is, it will make a difference in my job seeking / be a stepping stone for my career.

4. I need at least 2 more years to graduate, provided I don’t fail any subjects.

5. I need at least RM30k to finish my degree, provided everything goes smoothly. It will be more than RM30k if it doesn’t.

6. I am studying a course which is totally different from what I want to be and / or I am interested in.

7. I don’t know how long my parents can withstand the disappointment I give them each time I show them my result slip.

8. I am not very young, neither my parents.

9. I doubt I want to be an engineer.

What if I quit my studies and work…

1. I don’t have a degree.

2. I have limited choices when it comes to job choices.

3. I am at a disadvantage side when it comes to interviews and job seekings.

4. A friend of my dad told me that my dad wasn’t really “OK” with my working in journalism field.

5. What are my parents going to say if I make this decision, when they expect me to graduate?

6. How far can I go, in terms of basic salary, salary increment, promotions, supporting a family without a degree?

7. I won’t be wasting my money to study a course that I am not interested with and / or whether I am able to graduate or not.

8. I won’t be wasting my time to study a course that I am not interested with and / or whether I am able to graduate or not.

9. I already have a platform for me to kick start my career, with supervision and guidance from my editor.

10. I enjoy working in a field that I am interested with, as for now.

11. I still need to get a degree, sooner or later; but maybe not now.

I know, everyone out there isn’t able to help me in making decisions but mere advising. It still comes down to me, and me sorting things out with my parents. Not to mention, I haven’t ask my editor’s opinion on taking the job as a full timer. However, talking stuffs like this with my parents usually end up with no solution, shouting at me, getting mad at me and also, me grumbling about them.

Maybe I will just study for the mean time, until this trimester’s result is released.

Decision, decision, decision.

P/S : Chris a.k.a KampungKai also faced the situation sometime back. He quitted his engineering course in MMU and joined MAS to be a LAME (Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer). I guess, he faced an equally amount of confusion, and took him lots of courage to make the decision. But, to him, there’s no regrets, right?
