Just For Laugh - Convenience

We (Raymond, Gabriel and I) had banana leaf rice for lunch. After paying our meals, we left the shop. While walking towards our car, we passed by this computer shop - Navotech Technology Sdn. Bhd. or better known as Stygix.

this isnt the only time Stygix did a spelling blunder. I’m not sure if its still there, but there used to be a warning notice for thieves. Its a series of CCTV pictures of a thief caught redhanded in the act. The captions made me LOL my arse off.

    “Stoler on stolen”

I think they were trying to explain how the thief (”Stoler”) took the item (”stolen”). The captions for the other pictures were funny too, but i cant recall em.

    Laynie : 那时候没有红笔呢!

    MengZ : Yeap.

Yen : HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! I think those people working in Stygix are just a bunch of Ah Bengs and Ah Lians who sucks to the max. Customer service totally nil. And they only entertain people who buy PCs, but not tiny stuffs.

It should be “inconvenience”. Not only did they miss out the prefix “in-”, the root word has been misspelt too. Of course, “…for any special case” is certainly not necessary, although grammatically correct.

And there is another very common mistake: The words in bold should read “Closed for National Day”. Similarly, we say “We are closed”, “We are closed for the weekend”, “We are closed for business”, “We’re closed for renovation”. It’s like we’re desribing the ’state’ of the shop - is it closed?

Without the past-tense, it is not right. Imagine someone asks “is/was it close?” (not common though) - this desribes proximity (near or far). If it is almost 1pm, we say “It is close to 1pm now”. Or if you had narrowly escaped an accident, you say “Phew! That was close!”.

There is a name name for this kind of usage - I forgot what it’s called, I’m not an English teacher. Aha.

Debbie : Yaloh, I think they open their shop for any inconvenience instead and close for convenience. LOL. These people should go back to school and learn some basic English.
