All The Way From Japan - Mille Crepe
Note : Please read “The Downfall of Nadeje Patisserie” before you proceed to avoid any disappointment.
In my previous post, you have seen this picture…

The shop’s name is “Nadese Patisserie”, which I believe is a French word. Perhaps David of Narrowband can enlighten us on how to pronounce the word. He took French before what! –blek-

The shop is so small that I need to circle the area twice before I managed to find it. Upon stepping inside, there were no tables or chairs inside and just a small section for decoration purpose.

Why? Because it is a cake shop that sells 1 (ONE, SATU, 一) type of cake ONLY. Yes, a cake shop that sells only 1 type of cake.
I repeat : A CAKE SHOP THAT SELLS ONLY 1 TYPE OF CAKE!
They sure have big balls lots of confidence to run their business in such a way. I only saw this cake displayed in their display unit cum fridge. They were about 7 pieces on display, with 3 being reserved and remaining 4 for sale. I tried to look for their menu, who knows, their other flavour cakes have to be special ordered or something like that. But, I couldn’t find any.

The cake is called Mille Crepe. Crepe, according to Word Web, it means small and very thin pancake. At the price of RM6.50 per piece, it is even more expensive than Secret Recipe’s (RM5.60). This cake’s origin is Japan. How it ended up in Malaysia, I have freaking no idea. Actually I do know, but lets skip that part. Take note that all the ingredients, even the paper foil is imported from Japan. (According to the shop owner and magazine interview, that is.)

The cake actually consists of 19 to 20 slices of cream and “pancake”. As in, first layer of crust, then followed by a layer of cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust, then cream, then crust… Phew!

When you put it inside your mouth, immediately, you can feel the thousand layers texture. Like Ah Nee always like to say, “很有质感!” Soft and thin crust, sandwiched with milky cream, and the thousand layers texture feeling that melts inside your mouth, it is definitely a hero among all heroes (蛋糕中的英雄豪杰). However, due to the cream, you will avoid having another piece, not to mention it is very filling as well. Therefore, it is best served as desserts or during tea time.
As far as I know, this is the only shop that sells this cake in the whole Malaysia. So, if you want to eat this, you have to come to Malacca. 1kg costs RM45 while 1 piece costs RM6.50; it is worth a try especially if you like creamy stuffs like this one. It has cheese, original and strawberry coated flavour, but I only saw original flavour the other day.
So, another reason for you to come to Malacca for holiday other than Asam Pedas, Beef Soup, Satay Celup, Chicken Rice Ball, Chendol and ……
P/S : I am running out of Malacca’s delicacy to write already.

Cheng Sim : There’s 2 function called “copy” and “paste” what. LOL. You think I really type 20 times har? Its not pancake, but “crepe” means pancake. Its not exactly cheese cake too. Hmm… It is worth the price, but I cant find the best word to describe the texture of the cake. Heck, it is not even a cake, it is “crepe”. Err, that I don’t know. You should ask the boss. :P

April 25th, 2006 06:03
This is interesting! First time I have seen a crepe cake in Msia - must really try it if in Melaka. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I can try the Japanese bakeries in KL since it looks like a Japanese thing. Can I get the address? We won’t get the Star Melaka edition hence won’t get to see your article.
April 25th, 2006 12:05
Yes, you should really try it out. Currently, if you want to eat this MIlle Crepe, you can only come to Malacca. Amos is not planning to open a branch or franchise his shop yet. So, is either you come to Malacca or you can’t eat it. :)
As for the address, I lost his name card, I will get back to you once I visit his shop again. :) As for the Star newspaper, I will scan the article and upload it in my blog. :) Hehee…

April 27th, 2007 10:23
Hi Jason.. Came across your blog one day while searching for food.. Your Mille Crepe can be found in PJ too. It is same but of course it may taste different bcos of the chef. I send a picture to a friend of mine and she came across it with her family in Section 17, PJ. The shops name is call Food Foundry. I think you been there..so it’s great to meet young ppl who likes good food. Continue to blog in more of food cos.. some us of only know about good from you…..:)
April 27th, 2007 10:43
Adeline : Oh. It tastes very different actually and I do know the shop Food Foundry. :) However, for those who have tried Nadeje, they will know which one is better. Correct me if I am wrong, Nadeje was the first patiesserie that brought in Mille Crepe and the idea was copied by others. Tried the original one and you will feel the difference between both of them. I tried the Food Foundry once and I didn’t finish it at all.

This cake is also served in NY City at Lady Mendl’s Tea Salon as one of the 5-course high tea. It is exceptional. They serve it with fresh berries.
May 4th, 2007 03:16
Beth S. : Oh, interesting. Is it nice, I mean, really nice?

Hi Jason,
I came across ur blog while browsing thru the net for good food in Malacca. And I must say that ur reviews are very comprehensive. Keep up the good work!!!
Looking forward to reading more food reviews from other places soon :)
November 20th, 2007 00:06

Jayante : Thanks for the compliments. You can click on the “Eating… In Malacca” category on the top right of the side bar for a list of all the food tasting experience I had in Malacca. Hope it helps.
November 20th, 2007 22:12
so long already……the price remains or slightly higher?…hehehe
You mentioned about the three flavours..so which one you like best?
(don’t vote for all, kay….kikiki)
November 20th, 2007 22:15
H20 : They have increased the price to RM8.50 per slice, RM65 for 1kg and RM80 for 1.5kg. Its very pricey now. I like original and rum & raisin the most. :)
January 29th, 2008 16:08
I love the original Mille Crepe~* ^_*
Never forget that i carried it from melacca to KL with all of the ice begs in the box..juz to let my loves one taste it~ hahaha..
January 29th, 2008 16:13
Leffes : I did that many times too. :)
June 25th, 2008 12:55
Petrol price up but they are still keeping it at RM65/kg when I bought it for Father’s Day.
June 25th, 2008 13:05
Sim : Maybe they have yet to increase.
July 24th, 2008 17:24
i had your cake last 2 years and i had try to make it. but there is still different taste between the batter.i think is the flour.but still ’selut’ to ur cake …. its damn tasty until now i am wondering when i will go to malaca again and eat the cake…i worked in food foundry b4 and i think i was the first person who try to copy ur recepie but not througth your fren but in the net….trust me your fren didnt pretread you and its was the boss idea to releast it in the paper….now i have stop doing it for 2 years and i m planning to make it for my college fren during her 20th birthday.. wish me luck….1 more thing that is i resigned from food foundry after they release the paper as i was not feeling good because i was doing the cake but they put other ppl in the paper said that he was making it.NO HARD FEELING JUST WANNA B A FANS OF YOUR CAKE>.
July 25th, 2008 03:23
Kevin : The ingredients and recipe is still a secret and could only be learned from the bakers themselves. The recipes you found online isn’t close to the ones you ate in Nadeje Patisserie.
What paper is that? Haha. Mind explaining about it because I totally can’t catch what are you talking about.
July 25th, 2008 13:18
