All I Got To Eat In 1U Was…

Categories: Eating...
I was in P.J. visiting my grandparents on the second day of Chinese New Year. As usual, my mum would be talking with my grandmother or play “mahjong” with the relatives. On the other hand, my dad, my 2 sisters and me would be sitting down at the living hall with nothing to do. This time, I didn’t want to stay there sitting on the couch like a dumb ass couch potato and suggested to go 1U with my sister, Jamie. However, turned out my dad and relatives wanted to tag along. Damn! My plan to have tea at Dragon-i restaurant or Vietnamese Kitchen and watch movie at GSC went down the drain.
Since there were relatives, I couldn’t wander off or enter any shops restaurants just like that. So, we were wandering around aimlessly with nothing to do, buy or eat. –sweat- I was looking out for stuffs to eat and Boss Stewie once recommended Lecka-Lecka before, so I was looking out for the stall when I saw “Baoz”. As usual, itchy mouth-ed, I bought their specialty – “Melting Gold Baoz” (黄金流沙包) at the price of RM1.40 each.

The packaging is quite unique I can say, with a little hole that also resembles the “O” in “Baoz”. But then the “bao” was cold by the time I wanted to eat it. Nice but not practical. Split the “bao” into half and you will see a pool of custard-liked and yellowish liquid.

The taste is very weird and definitely not my cup of tea. It stinks with salted egg yolks’ smell! Not really smelly, but its like you are drinking salted egg yolks. Gross! The skin of the “bao” is super thick and hard, so thick that it can choke you to death if someone is to stuff the whole “bao” into your mouth. Another thing is that, if you are not careful, the so-called “gold” would spill all over your hand, leaving the “bao” empty. My hand was full of “gold” when I first bit it. –sweat-

Jason says : I won’t try it again, but I will try other “bao”.
Then, we walked past “Rotiboy” Bake Shoppe and we bought some to try. It was steaming hot when the bread reached my hand. It smells and tastes good too. A light aroma of coffee and butter, I think. Actually, it is nothing special, but since it is not available in Malacca yet, I quite enjoyed it.

Jason says : Can eat lah~!
Finally, I saw Lecka-Lecka ice cream stall. Apparently, they had changed their name; no more Lecka-Lecka, Gelato Fruity it is. In fact, it is just near the entrance (oval stage) where we came in. –sweat- There were a number of varieties for you to choose from; the rare ones were watermelon, peanut butter and mango and all time favourites like chocolate, vanilla and strawberry are available too.

At the price of RM7.90 for 2 scoops, it is very expensive. I didn’t know what flavour my sister chose, it has jelly beans in it. The taste? Very rich indeed and not too sweet, just nice for my taste buds. If only my sister had opted for the cone instead of the plastic cup…

Jason says : If I am the one who is paying, I prefer my RM1.05 Mc Sundae. -grins-
We went home after that, a 1-hour plus trip to 1U with minimal food tasting. That sucks! By the time we reached home, my mum was still playing “mahjong” and was winning RM30+.

Pelf : Rotiboy your favourite is it? :P
King’s Wife : Haha! Next time I buy “rotiboy” for you when I meet up with you lah~! How many you want? :P
1+2mom : Price wise, still acceptable. But the skin is really thick, makes it very hard to bite and not nice. Hehe You can buy and bring back home one mah~! It tastes not very bad actually.
February 11th, 2006 18:39
The bao certainly look terrible, prolly the filling was just too watery… maybe that’s why they had to make the skin thick enough so it doesn’t turn all soggy :P
February 12th, 2006 09:35
Omg the first thing I thought of when I saw the 5th pic was salted egg!! haha
February 12th, 2006 13:38
Bao? wow……from the picture…they look sooooo goooood!!!
February 12th, 2006 17:40
1. Baoz sucks
2. Try Gelatomio gelato instead. It tastes delicious (my opinion), and is slightly cheaper. It’s located next to the bowling alley, near the new top-floor GSC theatre.
February 13th, 2006 00:34
Laynie : Yeah, Baoz sucks; but everythign deserves a second chance mah~! :D Ok, thanks for the recommendation. Thats if I can find the bowling alley, 1U is so fcuking big.
KLJS : They look good, but taste not good at all.
Just Another Tradegy : Yeap, I think salted egg yolks is the main ingredients.
Sue : No matter what they reason they give, the skin is just way too thick for pau~! :D

haha actually i enjoyed that melting golden pau, but the very first time i bought it, i waslkin my way back to the car, and i grabbed one and sunk onto it, kaninia i was told or wasnt warned that filling inside was fluid like, the bloody filling just went onto my shirt … and yes it left a yellow spot on my white shirt and left my friend laughing all the way …
any why the hell they wanna name it as “Baoz”, Pau ma Pau la, or Bao, or Baos, but Baoz? thats totally not right …
February 13th, 2006 09:58
Earl Ku : Oh, you like it har? Hmm… Dunno, the thought of drinking salted egg yolks just abit gross lah~! Haha! Oh, I also kena what… the fluid was hot, and it was all over my hand… Burning pain… LOL… As for the name, don’t ask me… Ask the owner of the shop. Baoz…
February 13th, 2006 12:10
[...] Poor Jason came to 1U and ended up with lousy Baoz, so I eat on his behalf hehehe… [...]

February 14th, 2006 11:41
Looks like there are people who likes it. :P Hehe. 1 would be nice, the second one would taste sucky already. But then, I wont buy it again. I just don’t like it.
February 14th, 2006 14:11
They called it Baoz, instead of Pau, so that they can charge RM1.40 each. hehehe…
Atually 1u got a lot more stuff to offer ler.
February 14th, 2006 16:11

August 25th, 2006 12:29
Lecka-Lecka is still the same lah! The one you went to is a competitor. So now you know.
August 25th, 2006 13:13
Lecka : The 1U floor directory there written was Lecka-Lecka, but when I went there, it was another shop name. Previously, another friend who went there, at the same spot, with the same outlook, but had a different name. :) Are you sure is a competitor or they changed their name?
