Chocolate Brownies For “Her”
I bet you still remember a post titled – “A Night To Remember“, right? The night that I watched “The Myth” with “her“, just the two of us. “Her” birthday is coming soon, not very soon but soon.
Me : What you want for your birthday?
“She” : Don’t know.
Me : Think of something, else I don’t know what to give you for present.
“She” : I know what I want.
Me : What?
“She” : Chocolate Brownies.
Me : Secret Recipe’s?
“She” : No.
Me : Then?
“She” : Jason’s one.
Me : ……
“She” : Kekez.
Me : (Inside my heart) What had I got myself into?
So, I am practically in deep shit now. I google-ed for Chocolate Brownies’ recipe and there were lots of results. I picked two recipes that looked simpler (less preparation), easier (less brain cracking) and mess (less clean up).
Chocolate Brownies #0001
Ingredients :
1. 1/3 cup shortening (What is shortening?)
2. 2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate (How many ml?)
3. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

7. 1/4 teaspoon salt
8. 1/2 cup chopped walnutsPrepartions :
1. In a saucepan over low heat, melt shortening and chocolate, stirring constantly; cool.
2. Beat in vanilla and sugar.

7. Bake at 325° for about 25 minutes.
Chocolate Brownies #0010
Ingredients :
1. 340g/12oz dark chocolate
2. 255g/9oz unsalted butter (Is that the normal butter?)
3. 3 medium eggs (I didn’t know eggs got small, medium and big sizes. Extra large?)
4. 255g/9oz dark muscovado sugar (What is dark muscovado sugar?)
5. 110g/4oz plain flour
6. 1 tablespoon of baking powder
7. Pinch of saltFor variation :
1. 55g/2oz raspberries, unsalted pistachios, hazelnuts or white chocolate pieces.

4. Whisk the eggs and slowly add the sugar.
5. Beat in the chocolate mixture and gently fold in the flour.

7. Remove and cool slightly before placing on a wire rack to cool.
8. Cut into pieces and keep in a tin or in the fridge. For variations:
1.Follow the recipe until stage 4.
2. After you have folded in the flour, add your chosen ingredient.
3. Proceed as per the base recipe.
The baker’s daughter, please advice and guide the young one.
My mum is going to scream / warn / keep all the utensils when she sees this post. Another problem obstacle to overcome. Oh yeah, my mum makes one of the best pineapple tarts in Tampin. She should be baking them soon for Chinese New Year, so…
Why can’t “she” ask for Chocholate Chip Hazel Nut Cookies? I feel like strangling “her” now. Grrrrrr……

Here’s a one pot recipe..Surely you can manage this right???
One Bowl Brownies
4 squares Baker’s Unsweetened Chocolate (4ozs)
3/4 cups (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)
Heat oven to 350 F (325 F for glass baking dish). Line 13X9-inch baking pan with foil extending over edges to form handles. Grease foil.
Microwave chocolate and butter in large microwavable bowl on HIGH 2 minutes or until butter is melted. Stir until chocolate is completely melted.
Stir sugar into chocolate mixture until well blended. Mix in eggs and vanilla until well blended. Stir in flour and nuts until well blended. Spread in prepared pan.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out with fudgy crumbs. Do NOT overbake. Cool in pan. Lift out of pan onto cutting board. Cut into squares.
Makes about 24 brownies
Tip: For cakelike brownies, stir in 1/2 cup milk with eggs and vanilla. Increase flour to 1 1/2 cups.
This recipe created by Kraft Foods.

January 9th, 2006 23:21
so sincere, well you can try getting recipe from the naked chef, jamie oliver. his recipes are usually simple and easy. If you still can’t handle, get mummy. btw, i am a new blogder to ur site, via cheng sim. won’t kill me for reading ur blog rite?
January 9th, 2006 23:24
jason, lazy to read through the comments so dunno if your questions have been answered: it looks like recipe #1 is easier. i am assuming u found this of internet, which probably means american recipe lah hah….
shortening = is like fat/butter. i thnk there is veggie shortening which is supposed to be healthier. like Crisco.
unsweetened chocolate = will look like chocolate bar, probably in baking aisle. goes by weight… 2 squares will probably be like 1/2 kitkat bar. i think Nestle got make…
cup, tablespoon, teaspoon = these are all standardized measuring sizes. the typical measuring cup is like.. er.. see through and 2 cups big
all-purpose flour = you will see big words “all-purpose” flour on the bag.. hehe.
or you could buy betty crocker and just add water+egg+vegetable oil. kao tim. no need so san fu :)
brownies need to be served warm. cold already will turn hard very fast. don’t cut immediately after taking out of the oven also. hope this helps. and sorry if the html all doesn’t show up.
January 10th, 2006 00:56
Mel : I checked Jamie Oliver’s site, he didn’t have any recipe on brownies. Mum? I better not bother her, she will be teasing me like mad and perhaps, get mad at me also. -sweat- Oh, thanks for dropping by my blog. Of course, won’t kill ya. The more the better. :)
Hsin : Yeap, found it on the internet. Some questions have been answered though but no harm having more solutions. Thanks for all the answers and the tips too. If thats the case, I wonder how and when I should make the brownies.
January 10th, 2006 02:07
brownies can be made the night before but DO NOT put into the fridge..just when its cool put into air tight tupperware.
January 10th, 2006 02:10
Romantic : Oh, looks like the 2nd recipe gave out the wrong info. Thanks again! Hehe.
January 10th, 2006 06:45
the recipe isnt wrong..just that you dont want to give ur friend hard brownies, and she ‘ll want to try the fresh flavor but after she gets them home she should put them in the fridge for next few days and MW a little to soften before she eats them again
January 10th, 2006 12:54
Yeap, I was thinking of making it few hours before I meet up with her but… Thanks for pointing it out. :) Been very helpful of you.

January 11th, 2006 11:44
ello, have a suggestion here. as a brownie lover myself, i suggest you to go to the nearest hypermarket (i will suggest Cold Storage if there is one) and get those “all ingredients in a box” type. Tried a few times baking myself and i should say not bad. You just need to add in cooking oil, eggs, beat those things and bake the brownies in an oven. as easy as 1-2-3. i forgot the brand name (sorry) but it’s in a blue box with a very cute marshmellow looking fella on the box. should try the double chocolate with chocolate chunks if u r a chocolate lover. G’luck ;)
January 11th, 2006 14:10
ST : Hmmm… I will check out at the bakery shop at my place, not sure whether my place got Cold Storage or not though. Hehe. See how first, using instant mix is like cheating? :P
January 12th, 2006 14:11
大佬阿…you know I no good in baking cake wan lar, and you put me on the table? decoration you can come to ask me lar, baking? 咪搞我啦…

January 13th, 2006 16:02
there’s something call pre-mix chocolate brownie in supermarket.. Just buy, and probably mix with water, and kao tim. :P
Good luck.. Btw, SHE is not ‘jin lan’.. since it’s also her birthday?
January 13th, 2006 16:44
Why so many people suggest instant/ready-made one? Hmmm… Do I look like I am about to fail?
Haha. You are very smart, narrow down the scope already. :P Have to introduce more girls already. LOL.
