Typical Chinese 10 Course Meals

I attended a wedding dinner last Saturday in K.L., that was the reason why there were no updates during the weekends. I have forgotten to publish the “Away” post before I left for K.L. on Saturday morning too.

The dinner was held at Happy Valley Restaurant, which is part of the Tai Tong Group of Restaurants. It is along Jalan Bukit Bintang and below the restaurant is the Palm Beach Bistro.

As usual, I was more interested with the foods instead of the newly wed couples. :P (I was seated slightly behind the main table.)

The first dish - “冷盘” or Four Happiness Dish was a total dissapointment. They did not taste as good as I would have expected from a high class restaurant. The prawns, stir fried with celery tasted good though.

Shark fins soup, nothing to shout about except they are quite generous with the crabmeats. Endangered species? Hmm…

Next, it was the steamed fish ala Teow Cheow style. The fish was fresh. I got to eat the fish head, you know, where the part of the meat is the most delicious. -grins-

Instead of the usual chicken, they served us with roasted sucking pigs. The pig was roasted and sliced as thin as possible, with the cripiest skin and a little layer of fats underneath the skin. I was so happy to see when they served this dish. However, it was bad. It was cold. It was not crispy. It has more fats than it should has, in other words, the knife skill not good. -sighs-

The prawns were freshed and tasted good. I only got to eat 2. Damn!

The only dish that has vegetables. For those who does not know, it contains mushrooms, broccoli, sea cucumbers and beancurds. I dislike sea cucumbers. Enough said. But I did eat the mushrooms and broccoli though.

This was good, really good. Instead of the usual steamed rice, this one comes with 3 types of filling - “Char Siew 叉烧”, “Preserved Pork 腊肠” and chicken meat. The waitress actually took away the plate before I could finish them. Damn!

For desserts, it was the longan and sea coconut dessert with some really delicious jelly / “kuih”.

The white and pink colour “kuih” was soft and delicious. Too bad, there were only 10 of them and each one got to eat 1 only.

Inside the longan and sea coconut dessert, there was one big “汤圆 Tang Yuen”. “汤圆 Tang Yuen” is a type of dessert made using glutinous flour and boiled with syrup water. The special thing about this little ball was, it has a peanut (black sesame?) based filling inside which tasted freaking delicious. Again, there was only 1 for each person. Damn!

The cost of a table was around RM600, that was what I heard from the host. Overall, the food was very good, as they lived up to their name of Tai Tong. Service was fast too. As for their efficiency, they managed to set up half of their restaurant back, with all the tables wiped and cleaned, and chopsticks, bowls, spoons, table cloths and menus, all neatly arranged within 30 minutes since the guests started to leave the restaurant.

Oh, did I tell you they change your plate after every dish? Imagine the amount of plates they have to wash after that. 30 tables * 10 dishes * 10 plates = 3000 plates in one night. Gosh~!

Again, they need to change their “冷盘” to something better. -rolls eyes-

Firstly, dear Jason, why did I see smoke and fume coming out from my ears and nose one ?? Yee ???

Dang !! Makan nice food !!!

And secondly, next time when you go to this kind of wedding dinner hor. Choose the table where there are a lot of kids or baby or slim slim lady (who don’t eat much ), or the best the table with only all kids and you are the only adult.

You will be laughing all the way from 1st course till the 10th course. And you will thank me very-very much.

    Ah bo?

    That’s what I call enjoyment LOL !!!

Consuela : Since you are coming back soon, might as well ask your parents to book 1 table for you. :D

Auntie Maria : What is so fascinating about wedding dinners except their food? Even people tell me not to eat so much, I will still eat more. Totally opposite of you.

Eternity : Persuade your friends to have their wedding dinner in one of their restaurants.

Egghead : How much did Milksawkee (Damn! So difficult to spell the name.) pay you to do the review? :P

Mumsgather : Hope you enjoyed your meal. :P

Philips : Don’t angry. You eaten more good food than me, ok. Haha! I can’t do that, because I am a kin to the host, so I am seated behind the main table with other adults. But doesn’t matter, their on-the-table kung fu skill is not as good as mine.

Auntie Suzette : Black sesame? Hmm, it feels like peanuts though. :D Don’t worry, my wedding will be even different. 10 pieces of KFC per table. :P

Peek@booh : Hmm, perhaps it is black sesame. -ponders- What to do? My tongue still not that sensitive and canggih yet.

Earl-Ku : I think I called you on Sunday evening. :P Imbi Noble House? Why not you have your wedding dinner there and invite me? :P Better right? Hehe.

Simon : Long time didn’t see your comment in my blog. Hehe. Tai Thong woh~!
