Jinlan - A SYT From MMU

September 19th, 2005, Jason

Jinlan (靖岚) is a final year engineering student in MMU, Cyberjaya. (Yes, female in engineering field is rare enough, what more a SYT like Jinlan.) She is from a small town named Segamat, which is basically a must-pass-by town if you want to go to the East Coast from the southern part of Malaysia. Currently, there is no information about food in Segamat though.

岚姐姐 started blogging in August 2004, but her blog lacks of update. Sometimes there will be only 3 to 4 posts in a month, or sometimes 1 post only. She blogs according to her mood and nothing but her mood. As she said, “Fed up seeing my never-updated blog.”

She blogs in Mandarin in fact and no doubt, she expresses herself extremely well. Constructing her short sentences with the correct word and adjective, she is able to bring out the mood and the idea out without much effort. However, with my limited Mandarin knowledge, sometimes I do find her post is a little difficult for me to understand. However, by reading it for the second time or some other time with a different mood and feeling, the same post will give you different view or insight. At least, that is what I felt when I read through her archives again. (在不同的心情,气氛和环境下, 同样的文章却会带来不同的感触和味道.) If you do understand Mandarin, you can feel/know that she is quite an artistic (艺术) person as well.

Her smile is very sweet and heart melting. I have a feeling that she loves to smile a lot and is a very cheerful girl lady. Somehow, she does not belong to the cute category; she is more towards the elegant and graceful type of SYT. You know, where every thing she does, from walking, talking, smiling, eating or even sleeping seems so soft and graceful. Unlike NeeNee, who sometimes can be rough, noisy and loud. -blek-

Conclusion, I would die for a girl friend like her she is just … (speechless). Funny thing is that she is still single and available. I wonder why. -scratch head- The guys in MMU, Cyberjaya campus all have girl friend already is it or they are just blind? 岚姐姐, you do not be so picky, OK? -blek-

NeeNee Says “Hi”

September 16th, 2005, Ah Nee

I don’t know how to start this. I have no idea and no story to share with “Jason Mumbles”‘ readers. But why I still post this? This is because of Jason is battling with his own unsolved problems. Thus, he has no mood to deal with blogging stuff!!

16th September 2005, 4PM, K.L.
-sitting in front of the monitor and mumbling to myself-

“What I want to write? Nothing!”
“Why I volunteered myself to write for J enthusiastically?” -regrets-
“J said I can write whatever I want.”
“Hmm…”

4 minutes later…

Nee: “Jason, I think I’ll ruin your blog and so I decided to stop here. But anyway, I hope u can solve your problems as soon as possible and most importantly, good luck to your final! Don’t flunk your paper anymore, duh~!”

Read my first entry in “Jason Mumbles” here.

Jason says : “Thanks a lot, Nee.” -hugs-

My Simplified And Modified MSN Messenger

September 15th, 2005, Jason

There are 3 instant messengers inside my computer - ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger. I have stopped using ICQ as it is obsolete and getting lousier with each version. Yahoo! Messenger is MMU’s official IM and MSN Messenger is a very popular IM among friends.

Since I installed MSN Messenger when I got my 24/7 connection, I was not very happy and satisfied with the interface and the functions available in it. Not only that, since my PC is very old (4 years old), certain useless features are eating up my resources, memory and CPU usage. Thus, slowing down my computer and then, crashing my other programs as well. In other words, I want my IM to be advertisement free, simple interface, easy viewing and only comes with features that are useful to me.

After weeks of endless crashing, reinstalling, configuring, patching, tweaking, testing and debugging, I managed to have my simplified, modified and “canggih”-fied version of MSN Messenger. I am currently quite happy with the results and I am showing my work modified and personalized MSN Messenger here.

Why do I need to see my own display picture before I login?

3 links are removed at the bottom of the login screen.

I have removed “MSN Messenger” wordings at the top of the messenger.

“MSN Today” and “MSN Space” button were removed, as they are totally useless to me. The email button will open up my default browswer - Fire Fox instead of Internet Explorer.

The useless tabs were removed as well.

I hate advertisements in my IMs. Like David a.k.a Narrowband said, “I search for informations in my browser, not in my IMs.”

To make the interface as simple as possible, I have removed the least used icons/shortcuts, leaving the “Send File/Photo” button only.

Certain functions like “Voice Clips”, “Packs” and “Audibles” are removed as I do not use them at all. The sentence - “Click here to customize your MSN Messenger.” has been removed as well.

By default, a normal message can send up to few hundred characters only. After tweaking them, I can send up to 5000 characters or basically more than 1 blog post in 1 single message. It comes in handy when I am about to copy/paste long informations, emails, chat logs and etc.

There are certain people you do not want to miss talking to them, right? Therefore, with this function, you can choose which contact/user to pop up whenever they are online. It gives you more convenience and faster access to the person you want to chat with.

When you are away from your computer, you can lock your messenger so that other people cannot use your messenger to chat with your lovers, mistress or gay friends.

You can hide the MSN Messenger icon at your taskbar (closing it automatically as well) by pressing shortcut keys. It is very handy while you are working and your boss is coming towards you in a few steps.

When I am away from the computer, I want to know who has online and offline. This feature will keep a log of all activities in my MSN - online, offline, change name, change status, idle and etc.

I can run 2 messengers at the same time as well, which is impossible if you do not tweak your MSN Messenger. I can login to 2 different accounts at the same time. You never know when this feature will come in handy. (one of the evil features) -evil grins-

There are a few more functions as well which I did not include in this post such as sending offline messages, to annoy the user by nudging continously, multiple display name, automatic response message when you are away/idle, personalized status, colours in your display name, special sound effects for special contacts/users, send more than 5 emoticons in 1 message, open all links in your default browser instead of Internet Explorer, set the search toolbar to search Google instead of MSN Search, rename the contact/user name to the one you desire and a lot more evil features which I shall not disclose here. -grins-

Have fun tweaking your MSN Messenger. -wink-

P/S :

I am using MSN Messenger version 7.5.0299, which is currently the latest version.

Google Talk might be the next IM to replace all 3 IMs, but the time is yet to arrive.

Tampin / Pulau Sebang Bloggers

September 13th, 2005, Jason

Before I start, let me rant on my student life and MMU.

Today is the second day of the 12th week of our uni’s first trimester. Therefore, this week will be the last week for lectures and tutorials, and is also students’ presentation week. Therefore, throughout the whole week, you I get to see SYTs with make ups, in formal dresses, knee length skirts with high slits, high heels, kinky hairstyles. Not to forget, HYTs in blazers or coats, black leather shoe, slacks, long sleeve shirts with ties and superbly neat hairstyles. As for my presentation, the lecturer said he was not interested in the slides, so, I was not required to do my presentations. -relieved-

Another 2 weeks is our examination week, which is the most suffering time for us (students). Egghead will definitely understand how suffering it is when it comes to MMU’s examination week. Sometimes I wonder what ERU (Examination and Record Unit) is doing. They actually arranged our exam schedule in such a way that we, engineering students will have 2 or 3 exam papers within 3 days, or 2 papers in 1 day. Another issue is regarding the FD (Finance Department), but lets leave it for the next time. They always cooperate together with ERU and give us a difficult time for no reasons, especially 2 weeks before our examination week and before our course registration week.

Recently, a number of my hometown (Tampin) friends have started their own blogs. Not to be proud or boastful, it is a little late as blogging has been a popular thing or a big thing for quite some time already. Better late than never. -wink- Nonetheless, to my hometown friends, welcome to blogsphere and I hope you will enjoy blogging and reading blogs as much as I do. I have been blogging for 10 months and I will be celebrating my blog’s 1 years old birthday on 9th of November. (I want my own domain and web hosting! –coughs- Dad, sponsor me?)

Let me introduce them one by one :

Adeline Gan at http://adelinemiracles.blogspot.com

She is my junior and also my sister. I have blogged about her in 3 different posts – Adeline - Part I, II and III.

Chia Sheen at http://invisiblesheen.blogspot.com/ and his photo blog at http://invisiblesheensees.blogspot.com/

He is my junior (in school and scout) too, and was in the same class with Adeline.

Chui Fei at http://seek4happiness.blogspot.com/

She is my senior, but I got to know her through Seong Yee. She is Seong Yee’s eldest sister and is working as a lawyer currently.

Chung Yee at http://dreamybubble.blogspot.com/

She is my classmates since primary school and currently is my uni-mate. There are people who say she is one of the top four SYT from Faculty of Information, Science and Technology (FIST).

Fei Ping at http://fionsiaw.blogspot.com/

She was my classmate during primary school and the class monitor during Standard 6. I went to her dad’s English tuition class (for secondary school student) when I was Standard 5.

Han Lin at http://hlpang.ebloggy.com/ and his photo blog at http://hlpang2002.fotopages.com/
He was my classmate since Form 1 and is currently in UK to pursue his degree. He left Malaysia last Wednesday.

Khang Nee (NeeNee) at http://neeaddict.blogs.friendster.com/neeaddict/
If you have been following my blog and still do not know who is she, put your head into the toilet bowl and flush yourself. If you still do not know, read Khang Nee – Part I, II and III.

Laura at http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=echozzz
She is Adeline’s second sister, who is my senior in school and Interact Club.

Meei Tzy at http://meeitzy1213.blogspot.com//a>
I got to know her when we were in kindergarten, and she was my classmate from Standard 1 until Form 5. I have blogged about her in
this post too.

Seong Yee at http://seongyee.ebloggy.com/ and his photo blog at http://seongyee.lifelogger.com/
He was my classmate in Pulau Sebang Secondary School and was the head prefect too. He is a very popular guy inside and outside school. He is my uni-mate as well and will be graduating in 1-year time as a software engineer.

Siew Pey at http://ahmei329.blogspot.com/
She was from another class, but I got to know her somehow.

Auntie Shiau Lin at http://shiaulin.blogspot.com
We bumped into each other at Auntie Maria’s blog, which she commented in a post that she is from Pulau Sebang and then, every thing starts to fall in. We will be meeting each other next week in Tampin when she is back from Beijing. I hope she has finished reading my 10 months archives. –grins-

Perhaps there are more Tampin bloggers out there, but these are the ones that I know so far. By the way, please do not be surprise if their blogs contains only one post or has not been updated for few months. It is normal, very normal.

Time to study, like I said, 2 weeks more is my final examination. –sighs-

Exam… exam… exam…
