My 9th Packet Of O+ Blood
As I have mentioned earlier in this post, I went back to Tampin last weekend for an event - Rotary Day.
Rotary Day is basically an annual event organized by Rotary Club of Tampin on the last Sunday of September every year. It was held since the late 80’s and 2005 marked the 17th Rotary Day.
It is an event participated by nearly 1000 people from the nearby towns and is organized by 30 members only. Of course, it is helped by their family members and Interactors on the day itself. The point is, to organize such even with limited people is not an easy task.
Rotary Day includes :
- Marathon (Only during the early 90’s.)
- Children art colouring contest
- Blood donation campaign (There is about 200+ donors every year.)
- Senior citizen project (All the elderly will be given “angpau”.)
- Road safety campaign
- Anti drugs campaign
- Medical check up
- Carnival games
- Lucky draws
- Aerobic dances
- Free soft drinks / beverages
- Free ice creams
- Etc
It is one of the biggest event organized by Rotary Club of Tampin and the club has gained a few awards for this project. However, after organizing it for so many years, the quality of the event is starting to go down hill. Being a helper, Interactor and a participant of this event since the 8th Rotary Day, I notice the difference every year. However, they still give their very best every year. Cheers and keep up the good work.
Some facts (funny?) whenever I am about to donate blood.
- My blood is O+.
- I started donating blood when I was 18.
- The first packet of blood was donated in my university - MMU.
- The nurse will ask me to weigh myself twice because my weigh is 3 digit.
- The nurse thinks that I am about 90 to 95kg. -rolls eyes-
- There was a nurse who said I was cute. -rolls eyes-
- I have 3 blood veins on my left hand, easily visible and accessible.
- I have never been poked twice to find my blood vein.
- I take slightly more than 3 minutes to “donate” 450ml of blood. (Average is 4 minutes.)
- Most of the time, I never eat anything before I donate blood. (I lied.)
- Most of the time, I never sleep more than 5 hours before I donate blood. (I lied. In fact, I did not sleep at all before I donated last Sunday.)

Have you donated your blood? If no, please do so. It saves people’s life.

Wow you donate at least twice a year!
I donated blood for the first time in June. It was awesome!!!
But since then I haven’t heard of any blood donation campaigns around… Just like the rest, convenience really do play a huge role. (The campaign I went to was held in my school)
P/S: My blood type is an “O” too. Universal donors rock!

Hao : Okok, no problem.
Earl Ku : We saves somebody’s life. Haha! Fair enough? Interesting read, didn’t know got such thing.
Wu Ching Of The Wills : Donate 3 times or more and you will get over with the fear. To me, is nothing already.
Egghead : Can. Call me anytime when you need blood supply. Rm250 per packet. >:) Nope, why? You want to donate your sperm? Good quality one or not?
Milly : Your friend is weak in body, strength and mental. I am different. I don’t eat and don’t sleep, after donating blood, still can go play basketball.
Auntie Maria : Thats because AB+ is universal receiver. They can receive any blood from O, A, B and AB. So, why need to stock up AB? Oh, they say AB blood type people very stingy, are you?
Emily T : Actually, I am trying to donate every 3 or 4 months. If you have the heart, you will go donate. ;) Don’t worry, you can start donating anytime or when you start to have your own transport or your future uni does organize blood donation drive.
Auntie Domestic Goddess : Underweight? You below 45kg? You should eat more and drink more pig’s blood. :P Got, read the first comment.
Tash : Brave? Nothing at all actually. Yeah, cheers!
Zara’s Mama : I jus visited your blog last night through Egghead’s. Cute little kid you have there. You haven’t see me one hand donating blood, the other typing SMS yet and the mouth taking pictures. LOL. Whether nursing mum can donate blood or not, I am not so sure. Perhaps you can check it out first. But I don’t think its advisible though.
Once In A Life Time : Good for you, a packet of blood might just save someone’s life..
