Human Cloning? No Thanks!

Yesterday was my first paper, ECT 1016 Circuit Theory, out of my four mid term examination papers. Although I did not do as good as I thought I could, but there is hope in it. Worse comes to worst, I can just apply to sit for the supplementary paper. I will talk to Mr. Alan tomorrow and see what is his advice before I make any decisions. Anyway, I went for my movie marathon alone, today after nearly 1 month since my last visit. The movies were “The Island“, “Stealth” and “Seven Swords” at student price – RM5 per movie.

I never have the habit of posting any movie reviews in my blog, for I believe my personal judgment on the movie will not be applicable to everyone. However, I strongly suggest you that you watch “The Island”. The storyline is very good and makes sense from every single bit and the action scenes are too good to be described with words. However, the main reason why I am suggesting this movie is not because of its storyline, action scenes or actors, but the idea behind human cloning.

All these while, I think that human cloning will bring more benefits to human compare to disadvantages. However, after watching this movie, I have second thoughts. I was speechless and dumbfounded when I saw the clones being operated on and killed for their organs. I was basically numbed and left me in a state of deep thinking as I watched the scene when the clone was screaming for help as he was being “opened up” for his lungs.

I do not know how to describe the feeling I had when I was watching the movie. I could only tell you that, human cloning technology is something that we, humans are not supposed to learn and explore, what more when we are trying to be God ourselves. In my SPM days, my Bahasa Malaysia composition on human cloning was one of the best in the class due to the facts, advantages and ideas that I have written. However, now, I have second opinion and I am going to disagree on anything about human cloning technology.

As for my personal rating for this movie, I would gladly give a 9/10. I am planning to watch the movie in the cinema again and thinking of getting the pDVD uncut version for this movie as part of my collection. –coughs- There is one scene in the movie that was cut away. –coughs-

P/S :

Before the movie starts, there is a warning to the audience that says the idea in this movie might not be acceptable to certain audience or something similiar to that. I advise that kids or teenagers below 15 years old should not watch the first 30-45 minutes of the movie. After that, it is purely an action and adventure movie.

Why cannot they just not show trailers of horror films? They scare the shit out of me each time, as I usually watch movies alone!

yea..it is scarry to see that people are taking some other people life. Although it is clone, but it still have life, and I think it can feel the pain too.

Another scarry part is that they can actually clone and fix the person so that the clone is actually better in most ways compare to the original.

I have never tried watching movie alone. I find it kind of weird and I would rather watch DVD at home alone. You are one of those unique ones.

Actually it is scary that you take the film seriously! It is just a film after all.

i just have to say that there’s already technology to grow organ from, stem cells, no scientist in his right mind would clone human just for the organ, it’s not feasible to do so. even with stem cell, just one cell which i believe without conciousness of any sort, on humanity and moral stance, there’s already organization to stop its advancement, such situation that killing human clone to harvest organ in the movie is hardly possible to happen at all.

I would recommend technologies from Star Trek Voyager instead of the solutions portrayed in The Island.

The Voyager uses medical technologies to regenerate certain organs (including skin) that is damaged based on scanned data recorded on each individual person.

Although they are just movies, but isn’t all the technologies we are having now once a movie plot back in the 60s and 70s?

Yeah. I watched that movie too and felt that this would be an example of humans abusing science.

If it can create another lifeform (after all it is a clone of humans), it is inhumane to take their lives for the sake of ours. I really liked the idea behind this movie although the action scenes were a little too lengthy :P

It really teaches us not to take other people’s lives for granted in the name of science. If we can do anything to survive…they can do it as well.
