Decision Has Been Made - Thank You
After talking to my close friends, reading the various advices given by various bloggers and thinking since I went into hiatus mode last Saturday, I have made my decisions that :
I will continue to struggle in my studies for the next few years and graduate as an engineer. Auntie Lilian said, “Life cannot afford this kind of attitude, wrong choice, erase, start again. It means working till the end.” This was the sentence that made me decided to continue with my studies. Not only that, most of you advised and encouraged that I should go on with my studies.
“Jason Mumbles” will not be closed down just because my parents discovered my blog. I love my blog and I am proud of my blog. I, myself do not even have the courage and determination to delete my blog, what more when there are quite a number of people who enjoyed reading my blog. It was Mumsgather who stopped me from procrastinating, as in talking to my dad and making decisions. It was Mumsgather who managed to get me back into blogging as soon as possible because I would not blog until if and only I have made a decision about my future.
With that, I decided to talk to my dad on Friday night. However, I did not talk to my dad the other day, but I wrote him a letter instead, which is also another form of communication that I am more comfortable with. Therefore, for those who did not realize, my dad has left a comment in my previous post.
JASON, What I have to say?
I am glad you INVITED me to say something on your blog. I must put on record some misinformation on your blog.
As far as I can recall - I have NEVER said anything BAD about blogging. I just wish to put across the point that PLEASE give the same priority in your academic studies as blogging!
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all your friends in the BLOG world for helping you to come to the RIGHT decision - STUDY!
The reason your mum and I asked you to think it over is - we do not know whether you are INTERESTED!! We are just too concerned that you are BURNED OUT!! Say what you like, both of us are struggling to come out with $$$ to meet those extras once your PTPTN got suspended!! I think we both have the right to know what you are heading to especially your priority in life!!! We are not able to cope if the bill keep on increasing with each failures - where to find the money!!!
As your Mum comes from a very typical Chinese family, you have to tolerate some of her shortcomings in parenting keeping to the old tradition. Please be a little forgiving - she meant no malice but care for you!
I for once will do whatever I can to support you either financially or morally as long as you are FOCUS and KNOW what you want in life.
To put the record straight, I totally reject the word ransacking your computer. I discover your blog when you used MY laptop at home.
There are many other things that I want to say here but I dare NOT because you have WARNED us not to use your blog to complain. Thank you my son for inviting your parents (Your Dad to more precise.) into your blog world.
Let’s this be another GOOD way for me to learn a thing about BLOG. Thank you!
Dad Lioh
Therefore, there are a lot to be done and changed when the next trimester starts on 19th of June. Wish me luck! –grins and pray- I am going to get a lot of lectures from a lot of people – Juliana, Milly, Tiu Nia Sing, Gah Yoong….. whenever I go online next time. –sweat-
To all “Jason Mumbles”’ readers,
Thank you very much for being there for me, by offering all the best wishes, encouragements and advices given during my hiatus. Thank you very much for “loving” my blog. I also would like to express my gratitude and special thanks to Auntie Lilian, Mumsgather, Juliana and Adeline.
All these make blogging meaningful, alive and enjoyable. Not to mention, the wonderful friendships I have made and built through blogging. You guys are the best and I truly appreciate it. Thank you very much.
And of course, thank you very much to my parents and welcome to my blog. –smile-

The whole blog concept is always going to be difficult for non-bloggers to accept.
Nontheless, I agree with re-thinking your priority.
But Uncle Lioh, please understand that Jason’s blog cannot be the sole reason to be blamed for his studies.
No matter what, I still think blogging is healthier than playing video games.

i think somewhere along the plot the matter has solved itself.
kenny’s right, blogging is not an unhealthy interest. but it should never be the priority. i’m glad you’ve found a solution. keep it going, and all the best in your studies.

Hey Jason,
Good to hear that you’re not shutting down this blog. most importantly, I’m glad that you’ve communicated with your dad. That’s very important. I sometimes find it very difficult to talk to my parents too so I e-mail them instead. :) The beauty of internet.
Bravo, Jason! Way to go!!
Good luck to you!

It is a wise decision to continue studying and of course BLOGGING!!

Hey there Jason. I just came here from my comments section so ok now I know what you’re talking about.
You have a very cool and caring dad and now you’ve found a new way of communicating… through your blog. Isn’t that great?
I’m glad you decided to continue your studies even though you’ve said you dislike engineering etc. You know when I was your age I was even more blur than you. (I think one thing thats lacking in schools is career counselling) I had no direction or goal.
We didn’t have enuf money to send me overseas and my BM was poor so I didn’t get to enter local U. I chose to go to private college instead and based my choice of studies on a course which subjects I thought I liked. I had no idea what I wanted to do when I complete my studies and no plan whatsoever. I also didnt’ think very much or appreciate what my dad had to pay for my studies. If I did I wqould certainly have tried my best to enter local U instead of private college which was costly.
Luckily, I studied hard and completed my studies and my career turned out ok. So, I’m glad you chose to continue with your studies.
Its good to keep your blog but you must remember your priorities; commit to your studies and reduce your online time when necessary. (Its easy to get carried away blogging becos its a little bit addictive but a lot better than gaming.)
Sorry, got so long lecture from auntie. Haha.
And to dad Lioh. Welcome to the world of blogging. :-)

I must voice out my thought already, since this has been SERIOUSLY affected my life.
Jason is a great blogger. He just gained many of his supporteds in just a short period. Not everyone can make through such success, including me. Blog is also a new way of learning.
Basically blogging is also much more interactive than maintaining a website. Essentially it is an ongoing conversation between the blogger and his or her readers. Bloggers can spark off discussions, or reach out to audiences, whether it’s just family and friends or the world at large.
All the blogger blogs with a reason, no matter is to be famous, search for joy, or to just to record his/her daily life. In fact, I do believe that many bloggers blog to search new ways of living in their new blogosphere. No doubt, sometimes we can’t mix along with our closest friends, since our topics and interests, but through blog, we can gather along readers and bloggers with the same interest and find our new path.
But our life is still our life. We must also know our priority, what is important to our future…… I think both our parents did the same and right choice. Maybe we should rearrange our timetable or whatsoever, to find a correct path to a better future.

Let’s give a warm welcome to your new The Emperor in your world of blog. Emperor, Sensorshipboard, which ever you like to call that.
From now on, you have to be a good boy and write only what your parents will agree.
Like you can’t write anything about your parents, well, you can write how much you love him ofcourse, but you can never write “I hate my dad” or complain shits like that.
else please don’t be surprised that you received an email with HIGH PIORITY from your dad with the subject “I ORDER YOU TO REMOVE THAT POST OR DIE!” You know, blog sucks when it is being monitored by some authorities, especially those with censorship power in hand;
or instead of write a proper open comment like everyone else, censorship board will then write a private email and start lecture you about it.
I was laughed my ass out when your dad said how he found your blog. hahah.. geez jase, please conceal all possible trace next time. Why you check your blog using your dad’s notebook in the first place? And you should remove all traces! You are digging your own grave dude! LOL…
However, I hate people write with exclaimation marks.

Jason, you have a very understanding dad, and a mother that loves you very much. Like I commented earlier, you actually love and care about your mom too, otherwise you won’t blog so much about her. Admit it. :)
Glad that the dilema is now over. Set your priority right - as pointed out by your dad. You will not regret in your life later, that you continue to study now - study seriously.
May 31st, 2005 12:45
Good that you’ve come to some understanding with your dad.
Your dad’s right about the money issue, and for the plp who are paying for your studies, they need to know where your priorities are. And how COMMITTED you are. Nobody wants to keep throwing money into a bottomless pit.
On your side though, if the choice of your studies doesn’t bring your joy and you don’t want to make it your life career, then don’t force it if you still have many years of study left. However, you have to think seriously on your choices and live with them.
Shutting down your blog is not a way to solve problems. I’m sure your studies do teach you how to troubleshoot problems? It’s the same with life.
