Introducing “LX 7″
For those who started reading my blogs recently, you might have to read this post before you proceed. This is to give you a better understanding what, why, when and how it happened that brought up today’s post. For those who have read my blog few months ago especially these two SAHMs - 5xmom and Twinsmom, it would be good for you to read it to refresh your memory. For your information, our memory capacity is inverse proportional to our age.
While I was shopping for April’s be-earlied birthday present, I received a call from a private number. Apparently, it was from PC World, requesting me to go collect back my wireless keyboard and mouse that I claimed about 1.5 months ago. After I bought April’s be-earlied birthday present (Tomorrow’s topic.), I went to the shop as requested.
However, to my dissapointment, I was not given back my old desktop set - Logitech Cordless Desktop MX Duo. My desktop set was being replaced by a newer model, Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 700. Now, why should I make a fuss when I am given a newer model and has better function compared to the old one? I complained quite a lot as somehow, MX Duo has better and more organized layout of the QWERTY keyboard instead of this slightly modified LX 700.
I complained that
1) The layout of the keyboard. The directional pad and the function keys are slightly modified or placed at an odd place.

2) The size of the keyboard is relatively small, especially the buttons are reduced by about 25%. Compare the “ESC” key with yours, then you will get a rough idea about it. My “A” key is now the “Caps Lock” key. My “Tab” key is now the “Zoom” function button. My “End” key is now the “Page Down” key.

3) The size of the programmable keys are smaller by nearly 75%. It is as big as a red bean now, very unsuitable / uncomfortable for my giant finger tips.

4) This keyboard has a little too much function that is really not so useful to me.

5) The mouse is very ugly in terms of design!

6) The mouse’s side button for “Back” and “Forward” is so small that I have problem clicking the right button while browsing.

7) The mouse does not have my 2 favourite super fast scroll button.
8) The mouse belongs to a lower end category - Logitech Cordless Click! Plus where as mine was a Logitech Cordless MX 700 which belongs to the higher end category.
However, John, the branch manager told me that Logitech Cordless Desktop MX Duo is not manufactured anymore and it is replaced by Logitech Cordless Desktop LX 700. It is a newer model and has more function than before. Moreover, it worth RM400 , about RM30 to RM40 more than my previous RM375 desktop set. However, he said, if I insisted that I want MX Duo, he could find a new replacement for me from other source but he could not gurantee me anything verbally.
I wanted to ask him to seek back my MX Duo from other source instead of replacing me with LX 700 as I was not really satisfied with this new desktop set. After much hesitation and consideration, I decided to take LX 700 back as I did not really have much option at that moment. The reasons for me to take this new gadget back is that
1) The keyboard is superbly quiet when typing.
2) The mouse has a lighter weight compared to the previous.
3) It is a newer model and has a higher value.
4) The mouse’s scroll wheel not only is able to scroll up and down, but side ways also.
Well, I guess I shall need some time to get use to this gadget. I shall name this gadget “LX 7″ from now on. LX 7 must serve me well or even better than MX Duo, else I am going to…… to…… Well, I cannot do anything also, unless I fork out another RM400 for a new cordless desktop set which is basically impossible for me. After writing this post, I actually found out that, it was not that bad after all. Guess I need time to do some bonding with my desktop set. Before I forget, John actually did something that made me despise him.

hm… why would anybody need a wireless keyboard where the keyboard is basically sit still and right next to the system, where practically it doesn’t make any difference.
Wireless mouse, I could still accept that as it is definately more confortable as the mouse is moving most of the time.
Wireless technology doesn’t any difference when cut off the wire between the device and system, but you added an extra bulky receiver/charger. At the end, you allocate more space for the receiver/charger, which is basically LPPL.
The most comfortable keyboard is still the original Microsoft Natural keyboard.
For mouse, I am still waiting for a true wireless mouse that operates by battery and without a fucking cradle. No reason to cut off the cord but added a receiver at the end of it (LPPL). You don’t carry a cradle with a mouse along with your notebook just because your so-called wireless mouse requires a cradle to operate. Most likely I have to wait for bluetooth 2nd generation.

Mei Gie - Don’t destroy your keyboard on purpose. If it serves u well enuff, continue to use it. Somehow, I still prefer my original keyboard before i change into wireless one.
Carol - Ur keyboard old nvm, janji the owner is not old. :P
1+2mom - Lolx… Then u mah switch his keyboard over loh~ :P
kstang - yaloh, too bad its not water proof. :P
kancil killer - it does make a slight difference after i switch into wireless keyboard. somehow, i managed to clear up more space whenever i wanna do. SOMEHOW, not 100% although I still agree with your points. But to get a cordless mouse tat has a cradle receiver that can also receive keyboard signals, might as well, i fully maximize the usage of the cradle, right? the receiver basically din eat any space. its very small indeed. Anyway, different people do have different idea. :) Sighz, however, i have no regrets in forking out RM400 bucks for these two babes for my system though. :) cheers buddy!
u might wanna check out the logitech wireless mouse for notebook. its receiver is as small as a pendrive, bout 5cm large only. it operates by battery and has on/off switch. i guess, thats d one u gonna look for. :)

That’s damn lame to have a wireless receiver reguardless the size of it.
The idea of “wireless” is basically cut off any wired connection. When you have a notebook, you won’t like to carry extra receiver regardless the size. You want to take out a mouse, and start using it, no more plug and play hazzle.
Logitech MX900 mouse is a good one, but I am still not happy with it. I am waiting for the next version.

A cradle is definately not an answer. If you have more wireless device, imagine how many receivers you need? Wireless headphone, just to name one of it. It will eventually taking up more space on your desk and make your desk even more messy.
I don’t want any receiver/cradle when if I have a built-in bluetooth in my PC, the cradle no longer serve any purpose. I have yet seen a bluetooth mouse that sell without the receiver. If you buy more Bluetooth compatible products, you will end up more cradles piled up in your junk yeard.
