In Reality, Jason Is… - Scared Of Watching Horror Film

Standing tall at 181cm, weighing over 100kg and at the age of 21, I am expected to be brave to do anything. Well, I am not really afraid of anything and I shall give it a try to anything if I am given the chance. I am always the first one to do flying fox, abseiling, saving people from drowning (I was only Standard 5 that time.) and others. However, there is one thing that is still bothering me since I was a small kid until now.

-drum rolls-

I, Jason Lioh Kee Meng hereby, is proudly to announce that I am not able to watch horror film.

-runs away to hide from incoming rotten tomatoes and vegetables-

It is true that I am not able to watch any horror film. Although I know everything is about sound effect, picture effect and special effect, I still cannot get over the fact that it is a horror film that will freak me inside out. Whenever I watch a horror film, anything from the movie will haunt me for quite some time, which usually last about few days to one week. Sometimes, it lasts even longer. Every object I see or touch and in any atmosphere I am in especially when I am alone, I shall remember the scene from the movie which eventually freak me out even before I start to imagine the same thing that happened in the movie might just happen to me.

I went to an open house party organized by my classmates some time around January 2004. Everything was fine until one of them suggested to watch “The Ring” after the BBQ and it was already 2AM! Shit! I did not drive on that night and I have to wait for my friend to fetch me back. He did not want to fetch me back and I have no choice but to watch with them. Throughout the 90 minutes, I covered my eyes and shut my eyes to avoid any direct visual or audio to the movie. I survived that night and went home at 4AM. Thank God! However, I was a little frightened as well and slept with the lights on! Fcuk!

However, there was one time when I was not so lucky. I was in my Alpha year and having my English class in a computer lab. Out of nowhere, Duncan suggested to our English lecturer that we should watch a movie for that class as nobody was interested in attending / giving lectures. Yes, out of all movies, Duncan suggested “IT” by Stephen King. The worst part was we were not allowed to go back in that 2 hour English class. I had no other choice but to put myself into trouble. There was this scene when the little kid opened his family photo album, blood was oozing out from the book itself. When I went back and wanted to look at the birthday pictures which my roomate took long time ago, I was so scared that I did not want to open the album, fearing that blood would ooze out. There was another scene when the little kid was bathing inside the hostel bathroom and the showers, one by one started to spray water at the little kid as the force of the water gradually increased. The clown / killer came out from the leakage hole on the floor and settled the little kid. I actually hesitated to bath in the middle of the night when all my housemates and roomates were sleeping, even though the weather was freaking hot! The effect faded away after four days.

There was one time when I went out with my Form 6 friends who were studying near my university which is about 15 minutes drive. There was no nice movie to watch but yet they insisted on watching a movie. No prize for guessing what movie was it. Another horror film! I have forgotten the title, but it was a movie directed and casted by all British. They know very well that I am not able to watch, but yet they persuaded me to do so by offering to pay for my tickets. The whole group wanted to watch and I had no other choice but to join them. The first 15 minutes was fine, the movie started to get spooky in the second 15 minutes and I grabbed the girl’s hand who was sitting beside me! By the third 15 minutes, I was outside the cinema! Later, they treated me to a meal as a token of apology.

That day, when I went to watch “Hitchalone, the screen was showing “The Eye 10″’s trailer. Before you proceed, I suggest you should click here to read Michael Ooi’s post on “The Eye 10″. I actually diverted my eyes to the couple next to me when the trailer was being screened. The sounds had already made my heart pumping albeit I did not have any glimps at the screen. Thank God that the movie made me happy after that!

I wonder how am I going to watch horror film with any girls when I am more afraid than her. Never mind, I shall try to avoid as much as possible unless she FORCE / INSIST that I watch with her, then I might sit in the cinema for 15 minutes.

NeeNee, want to watch “The Eye 10″ this weekend or not?

Heh! Ehhh… You’re not the only one who had that kinda effect after watching The Ring. Actually the movie itself wasn’t that scary, and we all laugh saying that its more like a comedy than a horror flick. Its the after-effects and the psychological mind-fuck that you’d have to endure for a few days after watching that movie.

Nicole couldn’t sleep for one week after watching The Ring because she has a big mirror in her bedroom, and you know, Samara/Sadako might crawl out of it.

Careful. I heard she crawls out of computer monitors too. :)

    ok not funny.

No worry…I also can’t watch horror movie, but still I’ll prefer horror movie than romance movie, at least horror movie only make my hair stand, gel it then will be OK, but romantic movie make my goose bump raise which can’t be gel.

Maybe it’s because you have a vivid and overactive imagination that you can’t stand to watch horror movies. :)

Is it me, or do most people prefer to watch horror movies nowadays? Look at what’s showing..horror movies from Thailand, Korea, etc etc.

Dude! you’re just like me, man! i cannot tahan horror movie wan also! i think the last one i watch was nightmare on elm street when i was a kid, that also must watch video in daylight, not in cinema. the problem is that a lot of these horror movies go for cheap scares… you know, scary violin music, door slamming, dream sequences…

Timun : No, thanks! Funny or scary, I am staying out of it. :P

Kenny Sia : “Its the after-effects and the psychological mind-fuck that you’d have to endure for a few days after watching that movie.” Yeah, very true. This is the part that I hate the most after watching horror film. I like your joke that Samara will climb out of the monitor. Hmm, I wonder the sexy girl that I put as my wallpaper will climb out anot. If yes, I really don’t mind. :D

Danny : Thank you very much, but no thanks. :P

Carol : I am talking bout my fear you talked bout “The Eye 10″. *stranggle Carol*

Twinsmom : 100% romance movie also not my choice. Romance-comedy still ok. But I prefer sci-fic / adventure more ler. :D

1+2mom : Hahaha! Then whats the point of watching horror film when you skip all the scary scenes?

Buaya69 : Yakah! Where’s the application form? I so like to grab girls’ hand when watching horror film. :P

I Blog Me : Hmm, maybe gua. But, I think its due to the after effects lah! ;) Yaloh, few months ago, every week there were at least 2 horror film on screen. That was the dullest moment in my life, as I can’t watch any of them.

    Simon : *High-5*

Ice Queen : First time seeing you here. Thanks for dropping by and I welcome you. Hehe! Yaloh~ so nice, right? Can “kwong meng zheng dai” grab girl’s hand. Hahaha!

momof2 : eee, dun tease me lah! :P Tak mau, chi kek too much, I very charm one leh.

Msau : Err, good idea hor! Maybe I should try it, but I need to get a 100% not visible black glasses first. :P
