Talking Without A Voice
I was having my dinner with my aunt to celebrate my 21st birthday in a food court this evening when there was this family sitting next to our table. I was not paying much attention as they were like us, just arrived and waiting to be served. I went to order my food and came back.
While waiting for the food to arrive, I was looking at their daughter who is about 4 to 5 years old. She is really cute! Round face with a little bit of baby fat, tied a small ponytail each at the left and right side. She wore a very beautiful pink dress and was eating noodles just like the picture in Twinsmom’s blog - Isabelle using chopsticks. So cute!
As she looked at me while chewing the noodles, I winked my left eye followed by my right eye at her. She stared at me for bout 10 seconds. I then winked my right eye followed by my left eye at her. She stared at me for another 10 seconds, but there was a smile on her face. She tapped her mother’s shoulder and said “Bear Bear! Ma~! Bear Bear!” while pointing at me.
The parents looked at me, smiled and nodded her head. I nodded my head and winked at the little girl. Then, the mother “talked” to the father. I was surprise when she used sign language to communicate with him, while doing some sign to her daugther. Apparently, the parents are mute. I was slightly dissapointed when I realized that. I pity the little girl because she could not hear her parents’ voice but only “hear” to her parents’ hand. I looked at the little girl as she was looking at her mummy, while her mummy was “talking” to her. The little girl nodded her head as though she understood her mummy. I could hear her saying “Bear Bear” again in a softer voice.
I continued to wink at her again, trying to make her smile and she did. I put out my tongue and she followed me. After bout 2 minute of fooling around, finally, she giggled. I finished my dinner and was about to leave the table. I stood up and winked at her again. Little girl said “Bear Bear” again and tapped her mummy’s shoulder. Her mummy smiled at me. At that very moment, I wanted to say “Your daughter is very cute!” but too bad, I do not know sign language. Before I turned my back against them, I waved my hand to say good bye. The little girl waved back her tiny hand to say good bye to me.
Awwww…… How sweet!
I heard the parents were laughing at the little girl as though they were playing. She was indeed happy, even though she could not hear her parents, but love has overcome the problem of communicating between family members. I am not dissapointed with the fact that the parents are mute. Instead, I am happier for them as they are one small happy family.
Auntie and Uncle, if you so happened to drop by my blog, I want to tell you that your daughter is very cute indeed!
My housemates and my university friends do call me “Bear Bear” as my seconday name after Jason. Why? They say I looked like a life size teddy bear and all kids love to play with me, even if its stranger. Proof? Read the post again. So, SAHMs, do you want to hire a baby sitter to play with your children? But not to do your house chores, OK?
P/S : Have I been reading too much SAHMs’ blogs recently?
