Over Charged Burgers
Leaving only Gabriel (Gabby), my roomate - Raymond (Ray) and myself in the house, we went for our usual “yamcha” session in Jiki’s. I ordered “char kuey teow” with prawns and extra “xi ham” and one set of burger meat with fries, while Gabby opted for “double burger special” and Ray ordered “satay” and one set of burger meat. It was going smooth and everything was fine until the boss, or I would rather call “Bang” collecting the money for our respective orders.
Due to the fact that he made a mistake for my order, he charged me RM4 which I think was just fine for me. Actually, I do not really bother much about the price as long as it tastes good and it did. So, I paid. (As if I can choose not to pay.) As for Gabby, his set was RM4 which was quite worth it actually, with the ammount of side dishes given and also two pieces of meat.
Now here came the trouble, Ray’s set was charged RM3 which he thought was awfully expensive. Two pieces of meat with few drops of black pepper sauce, a spoon of onions and cole-slaw for RM3. Ray got pissed off because he was cheated, RM3 just for that few stuff, and not to mention that “Bang” didn’t give him baked beans as he promised when Ray ordered. After collecting our money, the boss went on to make other orders and did not give us back the change immediately. Ray’s blood was boiling in his body, running through his veins (He described to me like that.) and he sat there quietly, while Gabby and me was happily enjoying our meals.
5 minutes past by, Ray was still holding his fork and knife in his hand but not touching the food as he was really pissed off. Therefore, to ease out the atmosphere after 5 minutes of silence, I offered to pay his meal so that things would turn out better. However, our kind hearted Ray insisted that he waits for the boss to explain to him why the set costs RM3 and therefore, rejected my offer. (Somebody actually turn down my offer for giving him a treat. Wow!) So, the boss came after another 5 minutes and gave back our changes and explained to him how much Ray’s set cost in details. Ray took back his change, but apparently he was not satisfied with it at all because he was staring at the boss while “chopping” the burger meat with his knife.
Ray made a vow that he is not going to order from the burger stall until he feels like eating it again. None of my business actually, but I guess it would not be too long before he starts ordering from “Bang” again. I think that “Bang” was awfully tired tonight and therefore did stupid things by charging us slightly expensive. Usually, he is very nice to us as I am his regular customer.
So, how much I spent tonight? RM3 for the “char kuey teow”, RM4 for my set of burger and RM1.50 for my “Horlicks” ice. RM8.50 for my after-supper and pre-breakfast. That is quite normal actually. I enjoyed it to the maximum. Now, I cannot wait for tomorrow’s pizza buffet, since I am getting it for free. I wonder why… Hint to the other two persons in the house!
